andrela, somebody on another forum posted a copy in a dropbox account. Seems to work well, just would be nice to get updates w/o having to jump through hoops!

I forced an update on my living room TiVo last night and got nothing. Tonight I tried it and I finally have the latest update. They must have released more units today. I think my living room TiVo is at the bottom of the list as it's 3 to 4 weeks behind my bedroom TiVo when it comes to updates. Usually by the time my living gets updated, everyone has the update. :-)
If you don't have it yet, force an update and I'll bet you'll get it. |

Has anyone been succesful lately with operating tivo with a VPN service which charges a modest fee.
I have used unblock us and while I like their service they maintain one day they will do tivo. Nothing as of yet. I assume there is not a big demand for it??? It would be nice to use all the features of Tivo in Canada if a good ip blocker could be found, tivo is not like roku or the others as the box talks electronically to the tivo servers. |

I thought that unblock us works with Tivo
http://support.unblock-us.com/custom...etflix-on-tivo unless it only works with netflix and hulu plus? I have been using strongvpn for the last 6 months with success. Everything works. I have 2 premiere. |

Thanks andrella for the update adding that skript looks like a challange. I did not want to mess around with my router which is a combo smc from rogers but I will certainly look at that option when I open it up.
I will also look at your vpm and I believe you gave me that once before at 7.00 does not look too bad.I have reviewd it and there are 14 steps in the instructions to go through. I am apprehensive that if I mess up I will have no internet. I believe I will pursue the unblock us option thanks again |

jft436, I'm doing pretty much exactly what andrela is doing (also using StrongVPN). I was actually surprised how simple it was, although I have a router running dd-wrt which allows VPNs to be set up very easily.

Hi
thanks for the info. I checked their website and I am not getting the proper prices because at present I am in USA. I saw some lite programs there for 21 dollars for three months however I do not think that is the way to go. What package do u recommend and what is is the cost |

For those interested, Woot has the 45hr Premiere (refurb) today only for $50 shipped (to US). Regular price was $99 though TiVo site now advertises $149 and 75hr of HD. Additional $15|$13/mo service required with 1yr commitment (30day money-back guarantee on the service, I assume the box is non-returnable except if DOA).
Another vendor had them new for $59 shipped (to US) in March. =aw [added: TiVo sells the 45hr Premiere for $99 new and $79 refurb through their clearance centre] |

Many of these offers are great. You get a discounted price if you are a current subscriber around 15.95 this varies.
There was a deal last October/Novemeber atennae only 9.95 a month Currently I pay 12.95 and that is a bit of a bargain. One of the downsides of Tivo subscription plan is that you can not put the service on suspension. You have to cancel and re subscribe at a higher rate. This affects snowbirds like myself so i will look at cancellation this fall and re subscribing at a higher price to see if makes economic sense. |

Do you fly or drive? We take our old 649080 (S2 DT) TiVo when we go to family FL for a few weeks. Might try that with the Premiere (will get a CableCard from Comcast). Change the zipcode and download new data before you disconnect and the box is ready to start as soon as you connect it!

Actually I took delivery of the Tivo box in Florida and had it working great with all the aps no cable card . There is so much choice in the USA and Comcast stores many of their shows on their site. Also i am contemplating ditching comcast and going OTA will review that when I get my new TV.
I have a roku box which is great I can watch the CBC podcast news in fl.daily. Roku has arrived in Canada but I understand there are some problems accessing netflix??? Also have apple TV 2 with jailbreak which has not impressed me to date perhaps it works better in USA I can not get many the channels here even though I use unblock us. So as you can see I may not want my Tivo stateside but certainly it is good for Canada where the TV selection is limited or repetative in many cases. Yes I drive and take several pices of electronic equipment with me. |

When TiVo was charging $19.99 per month it made more sense to purchase the lifetime guide because within 2 years you would start saving money. So on both of my TiVo premieres that's what I did. However, the lifetime fee is still $499.99. They have not reduced that at all. Yet the monthly fee is $12.95 you say. That means now it would take over 3 years for the lifetime to make economical sense. I'd be more hesitant purchasing lifetime now. I just hope that these TiVo machines last a long time. I'd like to get at least 4 to 5 years out of each one. So far, my oldest one is 2 years this month. The youngest XL is only 1 year old this month.
