Default New to OTA - should I even bother with setting one up given my tvfool.com chart?

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...0b864a77f85321

I have no idea how to read these things to determine what kind of antenna I need. I plan on installing a CHannelMaster 4221HD on the roof, besides the chimney, but I don't want to make that investment unless I have some idea that it'll pay off. I have one tree that may pose a problem sight wise, but no buildings or other large obstructions to Seymour. I would love to get both American and Canadian channels, but Seymour signals are more important.

I presume 4221HD will be sufficient?

I am near Eagle ridge hospital (a few blocks east of Newport Village, Port Moody). Near Falcon Drive and Guildford Way in Coquitlam.

I apologize in advance if the question seems simple or dumb. Thanks for your time.

Looking to get CBC HD mostly. Live on the 3rd floor of a 4 story low-rise building. SW facing. There is another 4 story low-rise directly across from us about 50 m away perhaps.

Would I be able to use an indoor antenna? What would you recommend? Would it have to be near a window (tv is located on interior wall)?

Thanks in advance.

It is always hard to say how buildings get in the way but from your report it looks like you should have no issues receiving cbc with just about anything. When I was living in a similar situation I used a 'hdms9100' that I bought from 'the source' for around 200 bucks it has a rotator/amp etc all in one unit. This is not the most powerful antenna but it picks up signal from wide angles and given the bouncing of signals that you might be facing it could be a good pick. Most of the time I would say a cm4221 on a rotator with an cm7777 amp but that might be over kill for you.

Can you see the horizon from the SW window in your place.
How far from the window is the tv.
Is there an area near the window to place a small antenna?
amplified TERK indoor antenna for about 79.00 from the Scource is what I would recomend as your first indoor attempt, I use it and have the SW location too my cable run is about 25 feet and it still does fine, Now the nice thing about your view is you should get some Bellingham stations too. Now if you wish to try a cheaper route first use a home made UHF loop ( coat hanger antenna ) it may just surprize you but trust me if you get reception from that you will do more than good with the amplified TERK indoor antenna. And remember aim rescan and then aim and rescan till you find a good location and do let us know how you are doing.

Default OTA DTV reception results in New West / Sapperton - APRIL 2012

CM 4220 2-bay and ClearStream 2 antenna results in New Westminster / Sapperton from ground level - http://g.co/maps/u8y33

ATSC tuner built into TV.

ANALOG
14 CBUFT / Radio-Canada

DIGITAL
2.1 CBUT-DT / CBC
8.1 CHAN-DT / Global
10.1 CKVU-DT / Citytv
12.1 KVOS-DT / MeTV
12.2 KVOS-DT / TheCoolTV
17.1 CIVI-DT / CTV Two
26.1 CBUFT-DT / Radio-Canada
28.1 K24IC-D / PBS
32.1 CIVT-DT / CTV
42.1 CHNM-DT / OMNI
66.1 CHNU-DT / Joytv

CBC 2.1 was not received with the CM 4220. However, the ClearStream 2 provided reception to CBC 2.1, but Joytv 66.1 went missing with this antenna. The TV indicated that the CBC 2.1 signal was bad, but it worked for several hours.

I haven't kept up with things (reading these fourms), but wondering what happened to WorldView 28.2 and ShopNBC 24.1. I'm assuming no one in New West is getting CHEK-DT. UPDATE Read in this post, http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/show...&postcount=619 , about the current situation with 28.2 and 28.3.

I'm still on the hunt for a rooftop installer (yep, way up there) for an antenna and a few dishes.

Default Try a PVR

Amiga
I thought I had a great tuner on my Panasonic. With the rotator I could get a lot of channels. But I wound up with a Channel Master CM7000 PVR (and that's another story). I don't use the rotator much anymore. The signal from the backside of the antenna gets me all the Mt. Seymour channels, but I sometime have to turn it a little to get 66.1.
I get a lot of the Seattle channels by pointing the antenna south.
And I got all of the convenience of the PVR. Like recording shows. Like putting the news on pause while going into dinner. I like!

But I have to climb the roof myself these days. I want to put in a pre-amp, to see if I can get JoeTV again. I used to get it as a moderately strong signal and it's just below resolution now. I put roof hooks on one of my ladders. Need to borrow it?

laurie in Ladner with a roof mounted CM4228

Nothing much on now, so I'll go watch the PVR.

If you can get 12.1 and 28.1, you should be able to get ShopNBC 24.1 (Real is RF 19).

channels:

DIGITAL
2.1 CBUT-DT / CBC 1080
6.1 CHEK DT / Victoria 720
8.1 CHAN-DT / Global 1080

32.1 CIVT-DT / CTV. 1080
42.1 CHNM-DT / OMNI
66.1 CHNU-DT / Joytv

Run audio into my Bose System 7 and get Dolby DTS.

rarely get minor pixelation on 12.1

The video and audio are superior to Shaw cable.

My question: anyone able to pull in PBS Seattle? What channel? what antenna? How high?

I am so impressed with OTA for free.

I get PBS channels in Victoria no problem and have heard of many people on the main land receiving them no issues. 25-30ft attic install.

PBS is on 28.1-28.3 (RF 24) Orcas Islands, there is another on 9.1 (RF 9) from seattle but that is tricker to get for that I use stacked 'RCA ant751'.

The best store bought UHF antennas for this area in my opnion are the
cm4228hd or the xg91, I use both cm4228hd aimed at van and 2 stacked 91xg aimed at seattle. all of them preamped before and after the joins. Check your TVFOOL results, Hope this helps.

I live not too far from you, near Foster and Porter, I also get KBTC pbs HD out of Bellingham
on 28.1 , world on 28.2 and Washington State Legislature channel on 28.3, also there are three channels (two the same shopping channel and one the Spanish language channel) on 19.1, 19.2, and 19.3. If you had a more directional antenna (the Terk discussed else where for instance) and pointed it south a little west you should also get the Bellinghams mentioned above. Be aware that 19.1,.2,.3 will remap to 24.1,.2,.3

Default New West Agnes Street & 3rd

hi. I am new to the OTA however I have been doing some reading on the issues and I want to thank everyone for your help so far. I live on the 3rd floor of a 4 story walk up (no balcony) and I face in a southerly direction. My tuner in the TV does not pull any stations so I bought a Phillips SDV86227/27 Indoor/Outdoor antenna to get the ball rolling. I can pull in:
CHEK 6.1
MeTV 12.1,
Cool TV 12.2
KBCB 24.1
KBCB2 24.2
KBCB3 24.3
KBTC 28.1
WLD 28.2
TVW 28.3
So I feel fortunate and I have moved it around a bit and I can sometimes pick up CBC and JoyTV. How do I pick up more local stations? Different antenna? see if the building will let me put it on the roof? my TVFool says I should be able to pull the following http://www.tvfool.com/modeling/tmp/e...getdigital.php

Your input please.

Have you had any luck aiming your antenna north you should be able to get some from mount seymour you might need an antenna with higher net gain.
