Hi Everyone...i'm not that familiar with Home Theatre equipment however someone has asked that I put together an entry-level home theatre setup for them and i've come down to these two receivers. Both are currently available for the same price but am wondering what would be the better one to go for.
Obviously I know that the Pioneer has more features than the Denon, but i've heard great things about the overall quality of Denon regardless. The Denon is 330W and I believe the Pioneer is 550W. Option 1: Denon AVR-1312 Option 2: Pioneer VSX-821-K Alternatively, if there's a comparatively priced alternative that might be better suited/recommended please feel free to suggest different models as well. Both are $249 right now. Appreciate your input on the matter! It will be a 5.1 setup. Thanks. |

Sorry I just realized there's an actual AV Receiver sub-forum. If a moderator could move my posting that would be great.

Of the two, I would lean towards the Pioneer; surprisingly, the 1312 has no speaker/acoustic calibration to speak of, while the 821 at least has the basic MCACC.

I strongly suggest you consider increasing the AVR budget by $80 and snagging a Denon AVR-1612 from Future Shop, which currently has them listed at $329 (a price I haven't seen since the Boxing Week sales).
