Well done. You might have a future as a comedy writer if you aren't one already.
Goodbye HDNet. You will be missed.

I had no idea HDnet was being cancelled until I saw this thread today. Now I'll go home from work and it'll be gone
It was actually one of the more watched channels in my house, and I'm not terribly happy about losing it. I'm already unhappy about losing the analog channels, as my 2nd TV in my house is a computer with TV tuner which my wife primarily uses to watch & record HGTV. An upgrade to a new "digital box" would not be so simple, as I would have to get a new TV to replace my computer monitor and some sort of audio input selector switch for sound to my computer speakers. Plus I don't have a lot of space for yet ANOTHER shaw device. I already have a internet modem, phone modem and signal booster in that location. Losing HDNet just might be the tipping point to take my money elsewhere. |

You will not find HDnet by switching to a competitor. No one will be carrying HDnet. We should find out soon who will be carrying Axis.tv

talljak - where are you getting your information? According to HDNet.ca, the station is still alive and is being provided through lots of the small providers. Novus in Vancouver is one of them. They do say that they will eventually become Axis, but not yet. Finally, outside of this forum I would have had no knowledge, aside from the channel and its number disappering this morning, that it has been dropped. I have had no official communication from Shaw, whatsoever, about the change, let alone a replacement. All I got was a notice on my bill that my HDPlus is to cost $5 more next month.

Its right there on the HDnet website:
Source As I said no word yet on who will carry the net Axis. It could come back to Shaw as Axis, but by summer no one will have "HDnet" as it will then be Axis On a side note, on my PVR the guide no longer shows 235 and can not tune into it.

As of today HDnet is still known as HDnet and I have yet to hear from Shaw as to why we lost the channel. Yes the channel will be changing it's name in the summer but most of the programming that I watch on HDnet will remain the same. Specifically MMA. Just like a lot of people HDnet was one of my most watched channels and if you are an MMA fan, HDnet is a must have. |

I stand corrected.
We will have to wait and see if Shaw picks up Axis in the summer of 2012

Distant Signal HDplus is going up by $5? $16 to $21?

I just signed up regarding this HDNet fiasco.
I just finished an hour long chat with shaw's chat support. Ranting and fixing some reoccurring pixelation problems. The shaw guy I chatted with offered me a bigger bill/promo and two hd channels I have no interest in in leau of removing my hdnet. W HD movies? "you're kidding right?" ABC Spark? What a waste of bandwidth. What I would have been happy with is a billing credit or channel swap for something I would actually watch like hdnet. Oasis would do I suppose. I asked him if the next step was to remove my hd sports channels and replace them with the HD Opera channel. He didn't find humor in that. I'm constantly disappointed with shaw. Now they have me by the short and curlies because I've bought hundreds of dollars of equipment that is useless on another network. What to do? Has anyone else had any luck in getting something worthwhile in leau of HDNet? Last edited by markman34; 2012-03-20 at 05:27 PM. Reason: addition |

I know it really sux we lost HDNet. Shaw is really slow in getting some of the HD Channels. What's even worse, they still don't even have CBC News Network on HD yet. Most cable providers have it.

Sorry if I misled, Jason316. It is only the grandfathered HDPlus that is going up, from $12 to $16. If you are at $16, you remain at $16, at least until there is a general increase. Those of us who were grandfathered at the old $12 rate will be adding OASIS. So, with HDNet gone and OASIS returning, it is a bit of a win/loss situation, a kind of break even (though I'd rather have HDNet than Oasis).

So, we're in for a rate increase as well?
If I have this right, we lose HDnet, the HDPlus package goes from $12 to $16 but we will get Oasis added to our package? Along with two exciting new HD channels for us. Is there anyone on here from shaw that can confirm this? I had to laugh at the Shaw rep that I spoke to today who was genuinely excited for me with the addition of ABC Spark and W Movies HD. And, I love waiting on hold for ever to hear from shaw that we'll be paying more for less product. |

I'm in this situation of having my grandfathered hd plus increase and am paying extra for oasis so I'll be interested to see if my bill is also decreased automatically to reflect the addition of oasis to hd plus and therefore it's removal from my extras package.

I'm disappointed I won't get to see the end of the College Basketball Invitational tournament. I guess I will just find the scores online. Go Butler!

Sad to be losing HDNet. One of the most watched channels in house. Really hope some sort of decent replacement is made.
