Default Video Upconverters...

Hi All,

Does anybody use a video upconverter? I'd like to have some feedback on how these work... can they improve my standard satellite signal?

I'm finding with a big TV, and having watched enough HDTV that watching normal TV is painfull.

I haven't found much on these boxes, so I'm looking for hands on experience.

-Mike

There have been positive reviews on the iScan Ultra on many sites. It's not cheap though - about $1k.

You can maybe check out Focus Enhancements Centre Stage HD video scaler.

Did you ever make a decision on implementing one of these? I am finding with my HD PVR (Shaw 6408) and finding the same scenario as you.. SD looks lousy..

Has anyone tried one ? I concur SD on most channles looks like 'My dad's TV" some are pretty good . I am curious if these make a difference.

I saw a web special for iScan Ultra at $399 - US site though not sure they would "deliver" to Canada and whith duites and GST and whatever other taxes they made on it would be a good deal At least I live where there is no PST :-) !

The short and definitive answer is NO. Your HDTV will do about as good a job as any reasonably priced upconverter. Satellite SD signals are garbage and a real time converter will no nothing to improve it. About all you can do is buy the series on DVD or wait for it to show up in real HD.
