Default Calgary aircraft fans...

For you aircraft lovers....

The world's only AN-225 is visiting Calgary on the 11th March , ETA around noon local, ATD around 6 pm local.

The AN-225 is the world's largest aircraft.

Do we know what it is carrying.?

What an amazing machine, I have seen the AN-124 but this is unique, I believe it is the only one in existence.

Yes, there's only one . I believe this is the first visit to Calgary.

Hopefully there's enought light left for a few pictures..

The AN-225 was enroute from Scotland to Minneapolis today, but diverted to Montreal due to a maintenance issue. No update on the YYC arrival time yet..

I believe I once saw this one in Toronto. An enormous Russian cargo plane, right?

Not sure the AN-225 has been to Toronto but I have seen an AN-124 there at least twice.

I see an AN-124 every time it is in Ottawa as I drive by the airport every day.

You can't miss an AN-225; huge plane with 3 engines on each wing.

I would love to see this one in real life.

The latest schedule :

ETA YYC around 1 am Tuesday morning , ETD around 1100 am Tuesday morning..

I wonder how loud this puppy is when landing ?? The AN-124 is quite noisy on approach, and this bird has 2 more engines!

I'm in Airdrie too. I'll be listening (since I can't watch).

For the curious ones.

The AN-225 has departed from Moses Lake. ETD for Calgary 09:00 am.
Runway in use is 16 , so it will be landing from the north over Airdrie.

I actually started this account just to post on here, but I saw this plane come in this morning!! I live in Airdrie, right under the flight path and when I let my dog out at about 8:30/8:45, I just happened to look up and there it was! It was pretty amazing, a real sight to see. I am fascinated with planes so it was even better, I looked up "6 engine planes" to find out what it was, then "AN 225 Calgary" and found this thread! Does anyone know when it's leaving again? I would be so interested in seeing it take off in person! It was extremely impressive in the air, and I can't even imagine how much better it would be on the ground! My fiance has a theory of why it's here, but does anyone know for sure?

I understand it's taking oil rig equipment to Nigeria.
It will probably take 4-6 hours to load , so I guess it will leave around 3 pm.
If I hear anything,I'll update this thread.

Oh! That would make sense. My fiance seemed to think it was probably bringing military equipment here, since they are starting to run war games at Suffield. He gets emails from there since he runs mud on rigs, and has to go down there sometimes to do them, and they are shutting all of the roads down right now in the base. But taking rig equipment out definitely makes sense as well. It was an impressive thing to see, but I don't know that I want to deal with rush hour traffic just to see it take off again lol!
