Alarm Monitoring in Ottawa - Canadian TV, Computing and Home Theatre Forums

Hello,

I have an Ademco system at home - it was originally an ADT installed system, but we own it now. I was looking for monitoring options - I looked at The Monitoring Centre but they don't appear (at least based on their coverage map) to support Ottawa. The system has 8 zones - one of them is a smoke detector.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to a good monitoring company that services the Ottawa area?

I use Protectron. Service and support has been good, and I own my equipment as well. They are a large company, and seem to serve many corporate clients, as well.

I use Home Metal Security Products... cheap and reliable. Going on 6 years now

Actually, they outsource their monitoring to Protecton.

Including taxes we pay $16.89. The transaction appears from a company called "Security 24".

If "Protecton" now owns the monitoring station this is something new. That being said, I don't recall the name of the original company.

Also, keep in mind that while I own all my equipment if anything goes wrong or needs to be replaced Home Metal does the work for free / no charge. This includes everything from lightning strikes to battery replacement. I even had a monitored door replaced and they came over the same day to get it wired up.

The yearly discount we get on our home insurance more than offsets the monthly cost of the monitored alarm.

That's a good deal. I'm around $23 all in with Protectron.

After reading through this thread I decided to dump ADT and switch over to Home Metal. Can't believe how much I was paying for monitoring before, saving almost $20/month now with Home Metal

I've been with Home Metal for almost 10 years. Wouldn't even think of going with anyone else.

^^^ I just spoke to the owner of Home Metal and they do, in fact, use Protectron as their monitoring station - so, I stand corrected!

He's working on getting them to install the correct boards at the monitoring station so his customers can switch their Paradox systems over to IP monitoring instead of POTS.
