You cannot schedule or edit any recordings from a 4642 box. Only watch and delete recordings.

Ok, just got off the phone with Rogers after a 35 minute call, was passed around from Tech Support to Customer Service to Cable/ Internet service desk.
First stop, Tech support told me that she doesn't see that "Whole Home PVR" has been added to my account, I as like "ok, well, can you add it for me?" to which she said customer service will have to do that and transferred me. Customer Service guy was told the whole story and said he will pass me on (somewhere) where I get this guy who I have to recap and tell everything that happened in the last few minutes. Turned out the tech who was sent yesterday was only sent to swap out the 2 PVRs that had with NextBoxes... he was never instructed (by Rogers) to enable it for whole-home networking for which there is a fee of $49.95 + tax and at this point I was asked if I'm interested in making yet another appointment to have this done. I said sure and now I'm booked for Sunday. Once the charge is applied, I'm thinking of calling retentions to see if they can waive it as before any of my boxes were replaced, I was told that there would be no cost to me for the upgrade. God! |

Yikes. Yeah, and make sure he tests them before he leaves, lol. I was going to ask if you could see the little "house" on the front display, which indicates they are communicating, but I figured "surely, the tech completed the job properly".
Edit: I guess the tech did complete the job properly, if he wasn't advised to setup the whole home. But the job he did do didn't exactly take a genius. You could have went to the store and picked up boxes yourself!

I was told by a contact at Rogers, that they had upgraded a lot of their 160's to 500's in preparation of home pvr usage.
No wonder they are giving away T1’s with new plan. So off I went and lo and behold there they were, now have 2 500 jobs. Home installation is at 11: am tomorrow will advise on the outcome. |

Nice. When I get a chance to finish watching all the recordings, I might go into a store and do a swap for one with a 500GB capacity.
Question: If I'm already set up with WHPVR, and if I swap 8642HD's, would the new unit automatically get configured for WHPVR? I presume any software configuration/updates can be pushed to the new unit and no technician need to come to set things up again. |

As long as they have the new software, it should be fine. I watched my installation very closely and the tech didn't do anything to the boxes to "configure" them, short of rebooting them. It seems to be all about the filters they install.

I know for a fact that the MoCA filter was added in the basement for me and the 2 NextBox PVRs are on the same splitter/ switch. Is there anything I can do to perhaps enable Whole-Home PVR? Thanks!

it needs to be enabed by the rogers csr. If you have had the filter installed they should have done that already

Wow, that's pretty lame, esp. since the iApp for scheduling the PVRs over the net doesn't work either on the 8642HD apparently. It works perfectly fine on my 8300HDs though.

Have just had my Home PVR System installed and it works like a charm.
I have 2x8642 HD PVR’s and 1x4642 HD Box. I can watch recorded programs on PVR 1 from PVR 2 and vice versa. I also watch recorded programs on PVR’s 1 & 2 from my 4642. From all three boxes I can stop, delete, fast forward, rewind, pause and restart. From all three I can also check future scheduled programs. There is a small lag time on certain functions but what the hell, if that’s all there is to complain about then it is not worth it. All in all I would say Rogers has done a hell of a good job and deserve a pat on the back. |

Hi sammey, both your 8642 PVRs in your Whole Home configuration are 500 GB, correct? The one they gave me during the Whole Home install was 160 GB, and I couldn't figure out if there was some unknown reason why it had to be that size, since all 3 are rentable. Thanks.

Rogers probably has both 160GB and 500GB units in circulation. A couple years ago when I swapped for a 8642HD, it was only available in the 160GB size because the 500GB were only available for purchase.

So, for people who have signed up for NEXTBOX 2.0 deals that include the free 1 TB PVR Extender, what have you been told about receiving your extender?
A tech was here today to set things up for the Whole Home PVR and when I asked about the Extender, he said he'd need to call. Unfortunately, due to problems with getting things set up, both of us forgot about it during his visit. I was over at the local Rogers store this afternoon and asked about it and I was told it would be mailed and should call 888-ROGERS1 about it. I called this evening that once they had them in stock, it would need to be delivered and installed by a technician. That seems like overkill to me. What are other people hearing? |

I was told the same thing, it will be delivered. I called a local store to make sure I couldn't pick one up, and they told me the same thing. I was fully expecting to have to chase them for the next 2 months, but I actually received an unsolicited call from a Rogers rep just today (installation was this past Tues), advising they are short stocked, and one will be shipped to me in 1-2 weeks. They also apologized for the inconvenience, and advised they will waive the $49.99 installation fee! I didn't even complain. It was completely voluntary.
I'm not going to lie, I was shocked. It was nice to have someone corroborate the fact that it will be shipped too... without me asking, and worrying that they were just telling me what I wanted to hear.
