Just saw on Twitter that Videotron is negotiating with AMC. Has anyone heard anything? Afraid to get too excited but would be great as an addition to their lineup. Especially with Mad Men and the Killing returning end of March. Fingers crossed.

Montréal, February 21, 2012 – In response to popular demand, Videotron is enhancing its sports line-up with the addition of Sportsnet ONE as of February 23. Videotron customers will be able to get their fill of hockey, soccer, mixed martial arts and tennis on the eagerly awaited Canadian sport service during the free preview of its channel, which extends until March 31, 2012.

Sports fans will be able to tune in Sportsnet ONE on channels 177 (standard) and 777 (HD). The English-language channel covers Major League Baseball and NBA games, particularly the Blue Jays and the Raptors. Sportsnet ONE also carries live coverage of major international events such as English Premier League soccer, UEFA Champions League soccer, Indian Premier League cricket, cycling, tennis and more.

Subscribers to Videotron’s Digital TV service will get a free preview of Sportsnet ONE until March 31, after which it will be available as part of several packages or à la carte. For more information, visit videotron.com

Will SportsNet One be included with the other SportsNet channels or is separate? With Bell when you subscribe to SportsNet you get SportsNet One too.

Good stuff. Sportsnet One is up and running this morning. So I can catch up on a number of Laker and Clipper games I had no mean to get.

Hi everyone,

was watching the Food Network Canada before, and saw a commercial for the new Food Network HD. The commercial was for SHAW, but didn't mention any other provider.

Please tell me that Videotron is going to get it in HD.. and sooner than later. I did a Google and can't find a thing about Videotron getting the HD version.

Anyone heard any news ?

Food Network is a property of Shaw Media. Actually, the only Shaw Media channel distributed in HD by Videotron is National Geographic HD.

Other Shaw Media channels are Showcase HD (launched december 16 2006), History HD (launched october 8, 2009), MovieTime HD (launched march 12, 2010), HGTV HD (launched january 31, 2011) and Food HD (launched october 5, 2011).

All of these channels have been ignored by Videotron, so since Shaw Media is not in good speaking terms with Videotron, the chances of adding Food HD in the next few months is unlikely. Better check out Fibe offers.

On the list:
- Canal Indigo 2 HD (pay-per-view) is set to launch march 14, 2012 on channel 749.
- Spike HD is set to be added soon.

It is not clear to me at this time what is preventing Videotron from providing HD versions of a channels they already have the SD broadcast rights.

Do they need a different (more costly) licensing agreement with the channel provider or is it purely a bandwidth issue with the current coax network and illico hardware/software

There is a separate license fee for the HD channel which must be negotiated. Bandwidth is also obviously an issue so if the SD channel doesn't have a lot of viewers, then they may opt not to provide HD if it's too costly in terms of fees and bandwidth.

The cable provider can monitor the number of people watching each digital channel for their own use - like providing bandwidth, etc.

Thanks 57 for this information. I did not realize that there were separate negotiations to add HD. I guess BellFibe makes more sense if HD channels is an issue.

Got a snail mail letter yesterday from Videotron saying that as of March 23, Dusk will cease to exist. Videotron isn't dropping them, rather the network is being shut down.
