Default BTV 2012 Outages Thread - Please Read Post 1 Before Posting

This thread is designed to track outages at the BTV uplink in Toronto which affect the entire country.

Here are similar threads from previous years:

Weather outages can be caused by poor weather over your area, or poor weather over the BTV Uplink facility, located in Toronto. This thread is to track outages that affect the entire country due to weather or other problems at the uplink.

Please see and use the links below for Toronto radar if you have an outage. Please also report the amount of time that your location was "down".

Uplink Outage Dates & Times:

To be completed as outages occur. Times listed are Toronto times.

2012.07.15, 3PM, Severe, Brief Thunderstorm in Toronto ~ 10-15 minutes

2012.07.26, 2AM, Thunderstorms in Toronto

2012.08.27, 8PM, Heavy Rain in Toronto, ~20 Minutes

2012-09-04, 12:35PM, Heavy Rain in Toronto, ~5 Minutes

If you wish to find other previous similar threads, do a search for "rain snow fade". If your location was down for significantly longer than other people indicate in this thread, then you should consider re-aiming your dish and/or getting a larger dish.

Problems on Bell tonight with Craig Ferguson started at around 10:35pm MST. Radar maps show large blue swaths of rain/precip in TO. Perfectly clear night here in YYC.

Affects 817/801 simsub. Switched to 807 and they had problems too. Audio loss, image breakup, etc.

There is only very light precipitation (some light snow due to -7C) occasionally here in Toronto. It was snowing a lot harder earlier today. When the uplink goes down it usually affects all channels and they are usually "down". I suggest that you may wish to re-aim your dish. The signal may get a bit less strong when the weather is poor here, but if no one else is having issues and if the precipitation is as light as it is now, the problem causing the breakup is probably at your end. Check your signal strength.

Default A few transponders out?

I had a strange outage last night. I lost the top few transponders on 91W for about half an hour around 1am EST.

I was watching CBN/730, when I got the signal is unavailable screen. My receiver told me this channel now comes down on 91W tr32. I surfed around a bit and found a couple of other SD channels on 91W tr31 or 32 that were also out. 209 was one of them, I don't recall the others.

Everything else was fine - including all the HD channels I usually watch. There was no weather event here or in Toronto - but as most of my channels were fine, I assume the problem was not at my end. I didn't go and check the signal strength on all transponders as I was recording something else on the other tuner at the time and didn't want to disrupt that.

Did anyone else notice this?

I'm having a similar issue as above. I've noticed over the last couple weeks that some channels would come up with "satellite unavailable". Today I went through the entire channel lineup, and I'm missing 108 channels between 198 and 652, all of the radio stations in the upper 900's and many of the Galaxie music channels. All HD are working. Weird that I could get, say, Family east but not Family west, or Global Calgary but not Regina. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to sit on Bell hold for now, so I'll have to do that tomorrow and see if they have anything to say.

This thread is to report outages that affect all channels and the entire country at the uplink as per post 1. Weather in Toronto is about as nice as you can get today. Your problem lies elsewhere and since you don't have your location in your profile, we can't help with that either. Occasional issues may be related to the Nimiq 6 installation discussed in this forum.

Default Lost Signal

We lost our satellite signal a few minutes ago and it is sunny here (now anyway) in SW Ontario. Could this be the uplink in Toronto?

Yes lost signal for 10 minutes here in Montreal. It is cloudy and suppose to get a thunderstorm but it didn't get here yet. Must be in Toronto and it is affecting the uplink.
