Default Described Video forced on... ?!?

Could anyone please check on History HD (561) and confirm whether or not you hear described video.

I've called Rogers and they said that the feature is not available on my HD box (HD 6200), so I can't turn it off... and it can't be my TV because I've connected the audio of the cable box via RCA cables (can't pass sub-audio)... This leads me to believe that they screwed up their settings and are forcing DVS on, which is where you guys come in.

That's the only channel that has that behaviour, and watching History SD (50) doesn't have the problem either.

I've experienced this during "Blowdown", "Canadian Pickers" and others. Note that the rate of which the 'voice' comes on differs for each program. "Blowdown" was downright annoying almost cutting off the narrator, whereas "Canadian Pickers" was mostly only when there was text on the screen, so you might have to watch a whole show to confirm.

If any of you are affected, I would kindly request that you also call to report it.

Edit: Lets add "MASH" to the list of programs.

Rogers (Atlantic) may be picking up the incorrect feed. This has happened on occasion before. Send an e-mail to Rogers and copy History - the two of them should be able to sort it out. If you can provide the channel number, exact programmes, dates, times, etc, it should be easy for them to confirm.

If you wish to call Rogers, make sure the CSR can bring up the Atlantic channel and programme affected.

PS. Here in Ontario, I just tuned to M*A*S*H for about 5 minutes and didn't notice any DV. (I enabled DV on my STB) Blowdown is on at 4PM, so I'll record it and report back later if I remember.

In Ontario, I recorded and checked out Blowdown. I could not hear DV at all, even though the lead-in stated that it was available with DV and I activated DV in my STB settings. I never use this feature, so I would not notice if it's working or not, unless, like you, I was receiving a programme with DV that shouldn't be happening. I had this happen a while back, however, the programme was DD1.0 DV and not DD5.1 standard signal like Blowdown was... Good Luck. (Make sure you haven't activated DV or SAP on your STB...)

I am NOT crazy. I had this same problem the other day.

I'll double confirm today that it was "HISTORY" and register my complaint with Rogers as well once confirmed.

I was watching something.. I think it might have been MASH and heard the DV audio and tried all the box settings to get rid of it.. but ..

a) I was on primary audio
b) didn't matter if I used RCA or digital out
c) couldn't duplicate it on another channel

Thanks!

Still no resolution to this day... And I just happened by a show on NatGeo HD that was also affected in the same manner. I can't recall the show now, but it was the same issue as on History HD.

Next time it happens, I'll check with my receiver to see if the DV is on its own channel, or part of the stereo mix.

BTW, 57, there is no DV option on our STB. As far as SAP options, there's "English (If Available)", and "French (If Available)"... No "Channel Default" from the thread you referenced.

As recommended in post 2, have people e-mailed or called Rogers, History, NG regarding this issue? My guess is that Rogers is picking up the incorrect feed. I know that Rogers have occasionally picked up the incorrect feed for various channels. Very odd though how few people have commented here.

I have also heard the described video on History HD channel 561 here in St. John's, NL. I don't remember the exact show (maybe Pawn Stars???)

The biggest problem we're having with this .. is that it's not 100% of the time.. it seems to be only certain shows and even then, *MAYBE* only certain episodes.. very odd indeed.

Only certain programming has DV, so even if Rogers is picking up the DV feed in error, you would only see it on programming that has DV. You'll need to call when a programme with DV is on, or e-mail citing examples.
