New Channels always generate a lot of discussion so this thread is for discussing new channels in 2012.
You're welcome to speculate and discuss new channels coming to Eastlink in 2012 but PLEASE unless it's been confirmed by an official press release, be clear about what is speculation and what is fact. A post saying "a CSR said it was coming" is NOT official, however, it does put it in the "highly" likely category. If its posted on the CRTC site that its been approved by the CRTC but Eastlink has not said anything, I would consider that in the "not very likely at this time" category. For those in thew Greater Sudbury Area, this was posted by EastLink on Twitter - "We are preparing the Sudbury system for new channels as we speak. Soon. Will update ASAP."
And also for those in the Truro area, EastLink also said, "We are preparing the Truro system for new channels as we speak. Soon. Will update ASAP." Looks like it could be a good start to the new year for those waiting for the missing HD channels. |

It now seems that Rogers, as well has Shaw, has come to an understanding with Bell Media regarding carriage of channels like Space HD, and will be carrying that channel later this month.
I sure hope and pray that Eastlink will follow suit and come to a similar understanding. Yes, I really want to see Space HD on Eastlink's lineup, and the other Discovery channels in HD would sure be nice additions as well. Ah, yes, we ARE allowed to dream, aren't we!? |

If they do come to an understanding regarding this, I could see Eastlink as having perhaps the best HD programming lineup in the Country.
Hopefully they fill in the remaining gaps if this agreement comes to fruition, such as RDS2 SD/HD, TSN-Habs, CTV2HD and so on... if so, would be great!

Eastlink carries WFXT for the east FOX HD station in Atlantic canada.
Many places have FX Canada HD, Spike HD and NFL Network HD already... Edit by 57 - this post was responding to a post which has been deleted for several reasons.

Damn...i saw activity on this thread and thought there was "breaking news".
NFL HD is the only thing missing on our system. We have Fox HD East from Detroit around here. There are a number of systems that will be getting the other HDs soon when MPEG4 is running OK. Does anyone in Canada have GSN in HD? |

I see on my Eastlink bill that our basic HD package is going up from 6.95 to 8.95 as of our next bill. I really hope that means we will have the missing HD channels by then because if we are paying more for less, then I won't be happy. We're still waiting for everything from Sept on.

I noticed also the HD package rate is increasing by $2 next month in Sudbury as well, with no new channels yet. I see on the website's Channel Guide Rate they've now got Sportsnet World HD and NFL Redzone HD listed. However these do not appear in my guide and as a subscriber to Sportsnet World I've been eagerly awaiting this. I hope this is a sign something is happening soon. I really wish Eastlink would communicate better with its customers rather than cryptic Twitter messages that really say nothing.

I just did a live chat with tech support and got some info regarding the Sudbury switchover. Note that I didn't ask about the Hollywood Suite channels, but she mentioned them anyway:
"It looks like it should be fairly soon that we have your area switched over to the MPEG4 signal. We are currently in the process of trying to get all customers swap their equipment so that we can start converting these channels. You already have the updated equipment, so you do not need to worry about changing yours. We are hoping to have all customers switched over to the new equipment by January 30th. Starting January 23rd we will start switching channels over to the new format, we will not do all at once, we usually do 5-10 stations at a time. Once they are fully switched over we should be able to off you the new Hollywood Suites channels. I know it's still not a definite date, and I do apologize for that, but at least we are in the process and it should hopefully (fingers crossed) not take much longer." |

ABC Spark is set to launch on 26 March. No word on whether EastLink will carry it. Odds are good it will as it is owned by Corus and EastLink already carries most (if not all) of their channels. Not sure whether it will be an additional channel or if Corus will rebrand one of their existing channels (Ex: W, CMT, Cosmo, etc.).

Have had NFL Network on NL systems since April surprised to see a small town in NL with more HD then the bigger mainland areas, would really love to get Discovery Channel Canada out this way.

We had NFL added a couple of months ago up here but only in SD, HD is in their plans according to the Twitter person.
The twitter feed a few days ago had interesting news. As for ABC Spark, looking at the list of Corus owned channels, I can't see them giving anything up since most of the channels that are even remotely the same or even "family" related are pretty well established. This could be a completely new channel. |
