1080i is the recommended setting. All of these answers are in the original Gateway thread, just so you know. If you take the time to read through it, you will probably run across some info you may not have already thought of a question for yet.

Hi
I have two shaw PVR's and external e-sata mounted hard-drives with tons of recorded tv shows from last couple of years. If I upgrade my system to Gateway and portals, is there a way(with Shaw technical support) to transfer or use my existing e-sata hard-drives with new Gateway? Or do I have to live with the fact that the I will lose all my recordings with this upgrade? Sonisame |

@Sonisame: I went through this last week. I was told when I ordered my gateway that everything on the expander would carry across to the gateway (CSR checked with another person and also advised that in her case, when she switched her recordings came across) and when the installer came in, he advised that this was not the case. The expander had to be formatted. If not formatted, it would not be recognized. We tested and the only conclusion was to format.
I had my 1 TB expander plugged into an older 6416 III so I don't know if that makes any difference... Either way, after I had to lose all my recordings I did call Shaw and they credited my account for my "pain". |

Definitely will lose all recordings when moving an expander. The expander is linked to the specific dct. So even if you swap out the 6416 for another 6416 you would lose all data on the expander.

@HARDIVE: If you figure that one out, I'll give you a dollar! That's one of my beefs too...and the fact that there's no "Exit" button

The answer is in your instruction manual. If you can't find it, post again and I'll tell you the page number. It's also been posted on DHC many times.

I may have spoken too soon, again, as I have just been looking through the online manual at Shaw.ca and can't seem to find the particular info. I know I have seen it in writing somewhere so it must be in the ARRIS Moxi manual, my bad.
There is also a list of 'short cuts' posted here somewhere by another member but I'm having brain fade trying to find it. Ch+ and Ch- will move you a page at a time through the lists and guides. And, the 'Zoom' button is as close as you will come to an 'Exit' function. That or 'Menu', depending where you are in the system. Now, I expect all of these related posts will be removed as this is not related to 'installation' issues. EDIT: IIRC, the short cuts list is in a link in the member's 'signature' line so you can look for that in the threads. I'm browsing for it now.

OK, I found it. It is jorton who created it and the link is his signature:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8067076/Gate...CheatSheet.jpg This really needs to be added to the 'sticky', can you make that happen, downbeat? EDIT: Cheat Sheet by jorton as an attachment here so the link won't go dead in the future.

Apologies if this has already been covered in the previous 7 pages or other threads... Shaw techs should be coming this weekend to install a gateway and two portals, and I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts as to which should go where? My understanding is that the portal TVs will behave the same as if they had the gateway or other PVR attached, so functionally there shouldn't be a difference...
I'll have units going in the living room, family room, and master bedroom... only consideration I can see here is reports that the gateway tends to be noisy, so I'm thinking it would be best in the family room, where it could reside inside an enclosed TV stand (it's ventilated enough to keep things cool). Any thoughts? Advice? |

You require one Portal per tv. The Gateway does not work with a tv. In your scenario, you will require 3 Portals and the Gateway.
