Since the HD20 seems to be a pretty popular entry level projector I was hoping for owners to post your custom calibration settings. I have searched high and low and have found a few sites that list settings and they are all different. I know that everything can differ based on how many hours are on the lamp etc, but it's nice to have a base line.
I found some settings on another board posted by a guy that goes by custard. After his lamp hits so many hours he rescans the picture with the tools he uses and re-calibrates and posts the updated settings. I am using a slightly modifed version of his 37 hour settings which is right around how many hours are on my lamp. mode: user contrast: 47 brightness: 36 color: 53 tint: 46 sharpness: 8 noise reduction: 0 gamma: standard curve type: 1 offset: -2 color temp: warm red gain: 5 green gain: 0 blue gain: -5 red bias: -1 green bias: 0 blue bias: 0 lamp bright mode: off I have tried using THX DVDs and running the calibration on that, but I don't have the filter glasses so I don't get to run all the tests. I haven't been all that impressed after just running the ones I can though. I wouldn't mind trying a video essentials dvd or something like that if people had luck with it. |

I was also curious about the optimal mounting distance for any projector. Should it be as close to the the screen as you can get it with full zoom, or as far back as you can get it with little zoom?
I tried in the middle initially, then I moved it back as far as I could, thinking that the less zoom you use the better it would be. Not sure if it really made a difference, but I thought I noticed a bit of an improvement. But now I am thinking it might be better to have it as close as possible because then it doesn't need to throw the picture as far, and maybe require less brightness? Also, because its an optical zoom the image shouldn't change much at all when zooming, but I could be wrong. The nice thing about having it far back with no zoom, is it gives you the option to get a bigger screen down the road, but I am pretty much at my max right now anyway (120"), so that doesn't matter to me. |

Closer will give a brighter image with more pop.

Apparently the Newish Disney calibration disc(Disney WOW: World of Wonder [Blu-ray]) works very well and has much better information on how to run the set up. I have DVD Video essentials and while it does have a lot of test patterns etc it is difficult to navigate and not user friendly at all.

Cool, thanks for the information. I will try mounting it closer and see if I notice anything.

I just went and bought that Disney WOW Bluray and will try running it tonight after I move the projector closer.
Thanks again. |
