What is a Reception Results thread?

Threads in the Reception Results Forum are for sharing your own local reception reports, commenting or assisting other members with their own situations, and suggesting solutions based on the many OTA technical threads in the main OTA Forum. Make sure that your posts follow all the steps given in the following link: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=125161

Put your location either into the title of your Reception Results Thread post or in your member user data so that it is always visible.

Reception Results threads are not about the current technical and operational status of stations and/or networks.

If you experience a sudden or unusual change in the reception of one particular station it is best to read through the appropriate thread in the OTA Station & Network Operational Status Forum first to see if others are having the same problem. If there is no report yet, check whether the situation is really at your own local end before posting there, and then follow the tips in the "What is a Station or Network Status..." thread if you do.

If you lose track of where your post has gone, simply go to the DHC Quick Links menu and pull down to "My Posts". Another method is to go to one of your previous posts anywhere on the DHC site and click on your own user name to the left to get to the "Find More Posts By..." menu item.

Here's how to always have the newest, latest posts displayed when you open a thread (I highly advise it!):

1. In the blue navbar click on "User CP"
2. under "Your Control Panel" at the left of the screen select "Edit Options"
3. scroll down to "Thread Display Mode"
4. select "Linear - Newest First"

I cannot stress this enough - your LOCATION is critical information in OTA Reception Results posts.

Put your location (city/town, nearest major intersection) into the title of your Reception Results post or enter it into your member user data so that it is always visible.

As an example of putting it into your member user data, look to the left of this post under my own user name to see my "Location:"

Weather-related effects that occur primarily in Southern Ontario and Southern Quebec can have strong impacts on OTA TV reception during the hot summer months and occasionally in the late spring or early autumn. Tropospheric Skip (called tropo) and Ducting can result in TV stations from far, far away appearing suddenly in digital scans, then disappearing as rapidly as they arrived. At other times of the year various other weather and electromagnetic effects may be seen in a consumer's OTA reception. Tropo will not harm your OTA gear, and in fact many of our members consider tropo hunting to be a sport.

Tropo is very rare on the West Coast but can occasionally bring signals from as far as Oregon. It sometimes occurs on the Prairies in high summer, and can occasionally happen in the Atlantic Provinces from strong U.S. stations along the Eastern Seaboard. The incidents of tropo are few enough that we don't run "DXing, Tropo, Odd Reception" threads for those areas.

The following three "DXing, Tropo, Odd Reception" threads are for reporting and discussing tropo, ducting, other weather-related reception issues, and generally weird reception.

Use the following threads only if you are certain that your OTA gear is working properly when you received the odd signal(s):
