Can anyone confirm that WCFE 57.1 is back to full power? My signal is so weak it's hard to tell, but the warning about low power is gone from their site.

If you guys are having trouble getting CFCF-12DT after a rescan, I experienced this with many people yesterday that even though the signal from CFCF-12 is strong it has a tendency to be not picked up by a rescan and you may have to rescan it a 2nd or 3rd time before it gets picked up.

CHLF originates in Hawkesbury. Ottawa does not have a transmitter for TFO (ARGH!)

Anyone else having intermittent trouble with CJNT 62.1 (Metro-14)? The signal is weak as of last night, so either it's breaking up or just not there at all. Then later in the day it can be stable...

At least it's a better situation than V and Tele-Quebec, I've about given up hope on those.

Using an HTPC with Windows media center, I could never add CFTM or CTV by rescanning. I had to add them manually. Now they come in fine...

Anyone having trouble with OTA tuning on WMC needs to see the important threads about it in the HTPC Forum:

I have not seen any plans to make CTV2 available OTA anywhere A was not not already availalbe -- and since Calgary and Edmonton lost their OTA access to CTV2 with the digital transition, I don't imagine Montreal would be a priority.

For one thing, Bell would have to convince the other private broadcasters Global and Channel Zero (Metro14) not to complain about the additional competition, which is what historically kept A and City out of the Montreal market for years.

There is also the political issue of having more Anglophone stations than Francophone stations in Montreal -- right now we have 3 anglophone, 4 francophone, and 1 multilingual/anglo station that sell advertising. (I'm excluding CFTU aka Canal Savoir, since they don't sell ads.)

Metro 14 is really anglophone, so it's a tie at 4:4. It is a shame that half of the francophone stations don't even cover the entire area (as the anglophone stations do), with Télé-Québec and V not serving significant ports of Western Montreal. So on the one hand you have policies enforcing that there not be more English than French stations. On the other hand, you have French stations that don't serve the viewing area. It just doesn't add up ...

If you read further, you will see that I counted Metro14 as multilingual/anglo.

The 4/4 makes an even stronger argument that it will be very difficult for the CRTC to approve another anglo station. Even having CJOH-TV-8 Cornwall convert to digital, switch to CTV2 from CTV, and cover the west end of the island, would not fly -- in fact, Global had initally tried to have a retransmitter in Maxville back in the seventies, and then channel 11 in Cornwall later on, and these were denied as they would be receivable in Montreal.

Note that "receivable in Montreal" really means "eligible for prioirity carriage by Videotron and VDN", and not any concern for how well the OTA would atually work.

According to the CRTC, TFO [39 - Hawkesbury] is "receivable in Montreal", yet never got preferential treatment for carriage, for political reasons. It's all relative to who's analyzing the data.

But it does add a +1 to your list... (and TVO [48 - Hawkesbury] even things out)
