Hello everyone. CBC will be shutting down the analog tonight.
At midnight Channel 2, 26 and digital 58 will be shutdown. By 1:00am we should have our new transmitters digital 43 and 26 on. Unfortunately the PSIP will not be ready. It is a new system and quite complex so it will take some time. Another note CBC will now be in 1280x720P (I’m just a messenger) |

Yikes... is that 720p a permanent move then? I'd seen the quality change the last few days, was hoping it was just part of the transition. This is very unfortunate if they're planning to leave it this way

CBC will now be in 1280x720P
Sounds like they may be putting both CBUFT and CBUT from the same transmission stream? On a personal note if true and permanent I will sad to see the step down in many of the programs I do enjoy on CBC my saddest loss will be the NHL season this may be a game changer to dropping cable as my wife and I are hockey types, and things were going so well. |

Did not expect CBET-DT to be 720p. Always assumed 1080i like every other OTA station in the country. Wonder why they choose this over CBLT-DT20 1080i which was a tad more crisp upon the last time it came in on tropo.

We've had two reports from broadcast techs on the forum that all CBC and Radio-Canada OTA stations will be using 720p instead of 1080i.

Digital Conversion is done. CBC is now downgraded to 720p from its original 1080i, which disappoints me.

My TV says CBUT and CBUFT are both 720p. What's happening?

I guess I might be able to receive more Channels from the Switch.
I hope that the 720p quality is only temporary for CBC. |

Got both CBUT and CBUFT. 720p is disappointing, but then that's not the first disappointing action CBC has made for HD broadcast.

The switch to 720p seems to be permanent according to this, but think about it this way. By using 720p instead of 1080i, they can squeeze both channels in one physical channel, which reduces the cost of bringing DTV to the smaller markets.

If CBC was going to have a sub channel, such a CBC News Network or Knowledge Network, I would be OK with 720p. Could be one on each of CBUT and CBUFT.
Using fibre to distribute signals, I would not have thought bandwidth would cost that much. BTW, still no sound on CHNU-DT for me, but about 80% quality in PoMo. |

The only reason I went through the expense and the hassle of installing an antenna system last month was to receive an uncompressed 1080i signal from CBC. I do have a Shaw HD cable package. Everything was fine until today when CBC unexpectedly, and without prior announcement decided that 720p was a better choice. Is anyone aware of an official statement from CBC explaining the downgrade? Also, is anyone aware of an effective way to contact CBC to voice my opposition to this?

After years of transmitting in 1080i, prompting me to finally install a proper outdoor antenna system last month, the local CBC transmitter went to 720p overnight. Prior announcement from our trusted national broadcaster? Nope. Explanation? Nope. Might as well start watching it on Shaw Cable again...
<sarcasm on> Thanks a lot CBC! <sarcasm off> |

I'm still seeing 1080i on CBLT-DT

I've read CBVT-DT (Québec) is still 1080i.
And I can report CBRT-DT (Calgary) is still 1080i. |
