"Not allowed to record PPV events with your Bell PVR" - Bell phone rep - Canadian TV, Computing and Home Theatre Forums

I ordered and recorded (automatically) the 1:35am airing of The Lincoln Lawyer on ch 829 on Sunday morning. When the wife and I started watching it on Sunday night, it was clear that there was static in the audio. The louder the audio got (music or when people spoke), the static got worse. After 5 minutes of that we gave up and decided to watch the On Demand version and just call Bell the next morning (just now) to get a credit.

The rep (Natasha) just told me that client's aren't supposed to record PPV events on their PVR. She said it was Bell's policy. What the hell is she smoking? She asked why I didn't call at the time the audio problem was occurring -- Uh because I was asleep!?

I told her its not like I'm copying a movie to put onto the Internet. She said they "had no way of knowing that". ??!!

I asked her if there was an official statement on that on Bell's website; she said she's sure there must be something like that on there, but couldn't give me a link.

I'm in IT and it took me a whole 5 seconds to find this ("If I purchase the movie or event online...").

Does anybody have an information on her story? I've always had good experiences talking with Bell reps but this one was annoying and potentially dangerous ("This client's pirating our stuff!!")

The CSR was smoking something. Recording is not a problem as you can only view it on the PVR and not use it for other purposes. Majority of individuals would only watch once and erase.

The only issue I had was the audio was off as well

You can record regular PPV movies, however, you cannot record the "on demand" movies - channel 1000. I don't know why, but the PVR will not allow you to do this.

The "on-demand" is recorded to the PVR (it's only with the PVR that on demand works, since the movie is downloaded to your PVR) however, only temporarily.

CSRs rarely understand the nuances of how things work, so it's better to come to this site for these technical questions than to ask a first line CSR.

She must have been on crack. The PVR records PPV as a matter of course. I'm don't think you even have a choice in the matter.

was it a DV channel? or a channel # below 200?
