Default BBC Radio 1 - GONE!

So here I woke up this morning and went to drive into work, BBC is always on in the morning and afternoon drive ... but ... BAM no more!!!!! Not good as this is one of the only channels I really listen to.

What the heck happened??? No warning what so ever, just no more BBC.

from Sirius XM website

A Note to BBC Radio 1 Listeners

Quote:
BBC Radio 1 is no longer available on SiriusXM. Many of the songs heard on BBC Radio 1 can be heard on SiriusXM Hits 1 (Ch. 2) or 20 on 20 (Ch. 3), Alt Nation (Ch. 36), The Heat (Ch. 47) and BPM (Ch. 51). For a British perspective on the news you can listen to BBC World Service (Ch. 118).

Yeah I saw that, pretty pathetic.

If I wanted to listen to cheesy radio DJ's (like on 20on20 or Hits 1) I would just listen to my local radio station.

At least the BBC had interesting guests on and the live lounge sessions, etc etc etc.

Yeah, just got an upset email from my wife who also listens in the car.

I suspect it's due to the BBC iPlayer being officially launched in North America soon, and not really Sirius's fault.

I'll miss the weekend mixes, plus Zane Lowe and some banter from the likes of Moyles and Mills.

My sub expires at the end of August, so we won't be renewing. I will miss SiriusXMU though.

I just got off the phone with XM Canada and the guy told me that from Midnight Aug 8th to Aug 15th Radio 1 would be off air at the request of BBC, and that it is not a permanent thing.

I kind of disagree with this considering the message on the channel says they are making room for a new channel.

Anyway, I suggest those of you who are upset to call in as the guy said a ton of people were calling in this morning and the more people who complain the better chance of it staying.

Yep BBC radio1 was the ONLY reason I kept my xmsirius subscriptions in my cars and at home. Cancelling all 3 radios this morning in protest.

I called this morning to complain and was told to send an email though their site. The CSR said this would be more effective as the emails goes to their head office.

Very likely I will cancel Sirius and listen to BBC streaming through my iPhone in the car using the "Pocket Tunes" app.

Rob, what is the email you sent to?

This is the message I got from their Facebook page:

Quote:
We're very sorry for the inconvenience Devin and if you look at the comment below, we've listed some options for you to continue enjoying similar programming. We strive to provide our subscribers with diverse musical styles and hope you will continue to enjoy our programming.

The suggestion of the other siriusxm channels as even a remote substitute is an insult to true music lovers. NOT A SINGLE CHANNEL on siriusxm plays anything remotely close to the programing that shows such as Zane Lowes, Annie Mac, Gilles Peterson, Mike Davies, or even Pete Tong plays. I call on SiriusXM to look at the playlists and even name 10 songs that have been played on ANY of these shows in the past week. I would be willing to bet sirusxm Can't.

I am REALLY disappointed that they would pull channels without notice. I encourage anyone that is disappointed in the actions of SiriusXM to at MINIMUM call to complain, but as suggested write an email to them at http://www.siriusxm.com/feedback

As I stated im going a bit more extreme and cancelling my subs, I realized that I have another few subs that I can cancel as well in my work trucks as well but wouldn't want to upset my guys, then I would be as bad as sirius

GGGGRRRR, well at the office listing online. Gonna have to send in a Dear Scott email this week

lol, I already tweeted Scott and he has this as his status:

Quote:
@scott_mills - Scott Mills
US listeners. I have no idea why Radio 1 has been taken off XMSirius. But I would like to know. Getting a lot of tweets about it
And yeah I know the substitutions they offer are PATHETIC and not even close. Chris Moyles & Scott Mills are hilarious and the DJs on Hits 1 are the most annoying human beings ever.

I just sent feedback to Sirius Canada and SiriusXM.

However, as I stated earlier, I feel this is out of their hands with the international launch of the BBC iPlayer.

Even if the iPlayer goes international, it says US and not Canada. And really, who wants to use their entire data plan streaming music?? It was easy to just turn my XM on and listen to BBC. This is a crap move by whomever made the decision.

Default Bring Back Radio 1

Just spoken to Sirius to suspend my account, the man I spoke to said this appears to be permanent and suggested I complain because if enough people do they will overturn their decision.

So I sent them this message:

"With immediate effect I have suspended my Sirius account due to the loss of BBC Radio 1 (Channel 15) especially as it was without warning.

If this is a permanent removal of channel 15 then I will also cancel my subscription because it is the main channel I listen to and also the ONLY reason I renewed my subscription.

The alternative channels offered by the announcment loop are pale and weak in comparison to BBC Radio 1, and do not offer anything like the quality or range of programming content offered by Ch15."

Make sure you drop them an annoyed message too.

I admit that I will miss BBC1 and especially the Tuesday morning pub quiz. However, I am guessing this is more a decision of BBC than Sirius/XM. Let's face it there are alot of other good channels. Like everything else this will quickly be forgotten.
