I am going to be getting optik highspeed (15mb/s).
When i am at my parents house, they have a plan that is 7mb/s from telus i believe, and when i speedtest.net it, you get 1.5mb/s to 2mb/s. And when you download from either firefox or utorrent, you never get any download speeds over 100kb/s. I understand that the download might not be moving very fast on the other end, but i download alot, and cant understand why every download would be like this. Anyone know why speedtest, and downloads are going slower than the 7mb/s? Also, will my service be this slow as well? Secondly, when they set up with the wifi modem, how many ports does it have on it? And would it be better to connect all my devices to a router instead of the wifi modem? |

TELUS has no 7 mbps internet profile. Highspeed is provided as 1.5, 3, 6, 15 and 25 mbps.
OptikTV is installed with an Actiontec. The Actiontec is a 4 port modem/router with 10/100/1000 LAN and N wifi. If the Optik service you are having installed is OptikTV with up to 15 mbps internet, then you will get up to 15 mbps internet with no STBs in use. Depending on the profile you qualify for you may have 2HD/1SD or 3HD/1SD with up to 15 mbps internet. Optik streams take bandwidth accordingly. HD uses 5.6 mbps per active stream and SD uses 2.5 per active stream. If you have 3HD/1SD you will be on a 26 mbps profile and you will be able to watch 1HD and 1 SD stream without your internet being impacted below 15. Once you start the second HD stream you are left with about 12 mbps. With the last HD stream active you have around 6 mbps remaining for internet. If you have 2HD/1SD you will be on a 19 mbps profile and you will be able to watch 1 SD stream without your internet being impacted below 15. Once you start a HD stream you are left with about 10 mbps. With the last HD stream active you have around 4 mbps remaining for internet. - another TELUS tech |
