Default add different cordless handset to group?

Hi everyone,

I have a Panasonic three-handset cordless DECT 6.0 phone system (model KX-TGA101CS). I'm pretty sure it supports extra handsets. I'd like to add a fourth handset, but I can't seem to find any single add-on handsets (this model is bought about four years ago).

Can I get any Panasonic add-on handset, even if it's not one of the handsets that "belongs" with this system, and register it with my cordless base station? Or do I need the exact handset for this system?

No, visit the Panasonic website and enter the model you have and it will tell which handset you will need. My guess is the price of the one handset (if its still available) will probably have you considering buying a whole new system with the needed number of handsets.

I'm sort of in the same boat with my Panasonic system. The extra handsets are available but not through any local retailers and current pricing is crazy. For $20-30 more I can buy a whole new system.

Why advertise a feature (expandability) then charge an arm and a leg to take advantage of that feature?

Panasonic is not alone. Look at the pricing of many replacement products in consumer electronics and the price is crazy. The problem is the products are typically made obsolete in a year or two and demand for replacement product is so low that the only way they can make money is charge an arm and a leg.

Since it's a DECT 6.0 system, in theory any other DECT 6.0 handset, from Panasonic or any other manufacturer, should be capable of pairing with the base station. That's because DECT 6.0 is a standard, but your mileage may vary.

Note though, that even if pairing is a success, you may lose some handset features if they're not supported by the base.

I've seen individual handsets at Staples.

Electronics outlet stores are good places to find deals on individual handsets and whole systems. They usually have refurbished items for cheap and they tend to be in like-new condition. In Mississauga there are a number of stores in the Dundas/Dixie area, as well as Matheson/Dixie.
