We reno'd our master ensuite this past fall and I spent the big bucks on a 150 CFM Panasonic. Well worth the cost. Super quiet compared the Broan that was taken out and it moves a lot more air.

Even if you have a choice of fan size, the shape, length and type of ducting makes a difference. If you have a 3" diameter adjustable length ducting in place, getting a big fan won't make much of a difference as the volume of air may well be constricted by the ducting. Sort of like running a big V-8 engine with 2" exhaust instead of 3-4".

I agree. Higher CFM fans require a larger duct. Too small a duct will reduce efficiency and increase noise. Long duct lengths may also require an increase in size. Smooth sided metal duct is best. Flexible duct should be avoided if possible, especially for long lengths. If the duct is not going to be replaced, clean it out to remove dust and dirt buildup.
