Default Review: Ricky Gervais: Out of England -- The Stand-Up Special (HBO November 15th 9pm)

Ricky Gervais may be the funniest storyteller we have.

Just don't make the mistake of thinking even half of his stories are true, or you're bound to be offended.

Pretty funny. Never knew he did standup. Not sure why it wasn't on HBO Canada.

Gervais is a very funny man. You just need to "understand" his humor, or risk being offended.

He actually did a couple of stand-up DVDs in England before this American version. One was called Politics and the other was called Animals. Both were absolutely brilliant IMHO. I would assume there is a fair amount of duplicate material based on the review.

Have you seen his series called Extras? Again, very funny.

It is set to air on HBO Canada on December 6. Not sure why it didn't air at the same time.

I found that I did not like Extras. Although some of the cameos were neat, the priniciple characters reminded me of the worst of the Seinfeld episodes; people so self-centered that they would do any ludicrous thing, and hurt anyone else, to have things go as they wanted. I don't find that funny.

Caught this one over the weekend. He was funnier than I though he would be. Good performance.

This was funny as hell. Definitely a few moments where I was taken aback. I loved the Anne Frank bit.

Watched it today and thought the first half hour was funny but not sure about the gay handbook routine as appropriate for early afternoon viewing in this part of the country. I did exercise my censorship powers and switched channels.

We taped it and watched it in the evening just so we wouldn't be offended.
He is an amazing comic, talented at pointing out idiotic behaviour.
