$80 (overpaid) for a U8000 from Amazon, and a stainless chimney mount kit for another $22. RG6 was left over from the DirectTV installation. The chimney mast was a freebie from a friend. OTA HD quality is first class.

In total - around $60. I bought the Channel Master 4221 HD from Save and Replay ($50 + taxes). I will be rewiring the coaxial for the whole house, so this will be another $10. Pretty sweet!

Interesting to note that the Poll Results have been almost rigidly solid at their present values since the poll began over 5 years ago. This is a testament to the long term advice we've been giving here for almost six years that for those who find the programming available via OTA TV to be satisfactory the gear needed to receive it pays for itself many times over if cable and/or satellite bills are reduced or eliminated. OTA may not be for everyone, but the economics of it for consumers cannot be disputed.
Thanks to all who have voted in the poll so far, and it will keep running. |

Oh my god I put up another antenna! Rotor not working in cold and I have multiple TVs. So I have this old bow tie from 1970 in the shed. It works! With a preamp pointed at buffalo. Rotor now pointed at Rochester, leave it till spring. So far another $100, need some cable, wall plates……………………….

I'm between $400 and $500 now, but it looks like I'm at the end of my fiddling.
Used: CM4228HD, 5' tripod, 15' telescoping mast, CM7777 preamp, misc bolts and copper wire/cable box for signal grounding, guy wires (to be installed this weekend.) Unused: J-hook satellite mount. |

Just went to Save and Replay this morning (thanks for opening up early), got myself an XG91 ($110). Then I got back home, and accidentally broke both of my clone antennae putting up the Antennas Direct. So I was off to Nutech to get a couple of pieces of 5' RG-6 and a ChannelMaster 4221 ($45).

So far me and my buddy have spent roughly $20 on the Simple BiQuad DIY antenna that works absolutely perfectly.
It'll work a lot better once he moves into his apartment, but just for testing out, it was great. |
