So, I suspect this is just a temporary situation & TSI (TekSavvy) will resolve it. The TSI users tend to be pretty well-informed and I don't think this would be tolerated for long. Basically they HAVE to fix it. I think they will (will advise here). |

I think I will wait a while for TSI and rogers to get their acts together. Might take a while. But rogers has screwed with me too many times for me to tolerate them much longer. cheers. |

Yeah, part of the deal with going with TekSavvy is that they manage the relationship with Rogers.
For example, I have no wish go back to explaining to a moron at Rogers that failed DNS lookups for perfectly valid sites are to redirecting me to their stinking search portal. "Duh, are you sure www.oracle.com is a valid website?" ![]() Working with Rogers is a tough job but TekSavvy took it on so they need to do it - and it appears they are *not* doing a good job of it right now. No official communication about the problem, just a rumor of "should be fixed this week" at the moment. |

I recently noticed my Teksavvy speeds being terribly slow and did the Speedtest.net test and came up with 2 mb/s down, 0.23 mb/s up!
I'm downtown Toronto (Richmond/Spadina area). It was OK up until a week and a half ago or so and has been horrendous ever since. |

As I (loosely) understand it, the CRTC has mandated that Rogers can't "own" the cable that enters your home. This makes sense to me, you can't have 10 different cables coming into your house, so, for any sort of competition (beyond Rogers vs Bell) those cables need to be shared between multiple providers. TekSavvy has jumped on this and now offers both cable internet (over the "Rogers" coax) and DSL (over Bell lines). I used to think that Rogers wanted "less hassle" and that's why they were letting TSI in - now I realize they have no choice Anyhoo, Rogers, with their incredibly frustrating redirects and unsympathetic and unknowing staff is a distant memory for me. |

Just did the test now and got: 18.48 mb/s down (speedburst skews this #) 0.17 mb/s up (slow!!) 805 ms ping Not good! |

indigo81 welcome to DHC.
Where approx. are you located? It might help others determine what they might expect. Have you contacted the reseller yet? |

I'm at Richmond/Spadina downtown Toronto.
I've contacted Teksavvy and they got me to do a tracert thing on google.ca and haven't gotten back to me since. Not sure what's up at all but I've gotta figure this out, I run an online business from home so this is a real pain. |

When switching over from Rogers to Teksavvy how long will you be without internet? I have a Motorola cable modem that I have purchsed (I am pretty sure that I bought it years ago from Rogers) that also works with Teksavvy. Is it just a case of the cutover being done at the Rogers office and I will be up on Teksavvy without really having to do anything at my end?

I got a cancel date from Rogers and TekSavvy started the following day.
I was away when the switchover happened, but by the time I checked it on noon of the "following day" I was up & running. Rogers had advised their service wouldn't be cut until midnight of the cancel day, but I can't vouch for that. Just as a final act of incompentance, Rogers sent out a tech to my house on "the following day" - which they told me they told me they DEFINATELY would *not* do. Being wary of the great Satan, I'd already warned the kids to tell the tech not to disconnect the cable. He didn't, and therefore my switchover was quick. |

Very interesting posts. It would seem the majority of people who have been switching are in Toronto area though. Does anybody in Ottawa have comments on how the service is here? Same speeds, more than double the usage cap, $15 cheaper, all very temping. Out of curiosity, I wonder if the Retentions Center at Rogers would offer any deals to existing customers to compete with these guys?

I tried that b4 switching. Rogers retentions offered the current "new subscriber" deals (which included a contract for min 1 yr). In the long run it wasn't worth it.
