hello
I was wondering if anyone has heard of Sony selling the emulator code on the PlayStation store that will all PlayStation 3 systems to play PS2 games. I had friend tell me about this last week but i try to search the PlayStation website but nothing. Has anyone here heard anything about this? |

it's been a rumor since they stopped adding BC to the production units.
Wouldn't hold your breath. They can make more money by re-releasing whole titles on the PSN than a one time charge for an emulator. |

During some corporate call, Sega let it slip that Sony wants to sell PS2 games on PSN. Not a huge surprise, really.
I say bring it. |

I love having backwards compatibility. I wouldn't spend $7 on a game I already own just so I don't have to plug in my PS2. Give it the HD treatment and add trophies and sell it for $20 and I'll bite.

I would be very, very, surprised if they sold some sort of BC compatibility patch on the PS store.
What I think is more realistic is that they sell PS2 games that have been re-written for the PS3. Basically letting you buy your PS2 game again. (Similiar to what Nintendo does for the Wii where you can buy Nintendo 64 classic games that play on the wii). |

I like the God of War approach. Take the PS2 game, upgrade the visuals, add trophies, and then put it on disc. Though I haven't played it yet, the GoW bundle for $40 is a great deal, especially when you consider most places are selling the PS2 games for $20 each.
I hope they do the same with ICO and Shadow of the Colossus (neither of which I've played, but always wanted to) before the third Team ICO game comes out. Gord |

Word is they are just doing a reprint before The Last Guardian sadly. Like you I'd love to buy Ico and SOTC in HD remakes as I have also not played either. I think it would sell fantastic. Many people acknowledge both games as 2 of the very best on the PS2 yet were overlooked as they were niche titles. I would bet an HD rerelease would outsell the originals.

I'd personally love if they did this. I can't see them investing the resourses, capital etc to develop existing games that may or may not sell though.

Well, I'll still hold out hope. Afterall, the GoW set didn't take them long to produce, with limited resources. I watched a developer interview and they said GoW2 was running in 3 weeks (then there were bug fixes after that). Since they haven't set a date for The Last Guardian, they could still pull it off.
