Default 2010 SuperBowl Available with US Commercials? (legally)

Hello,

Does anyone know if any provider(Shaw, Bell, etc etc) will be showing the 2010 SuperBowl LIVE with US commercials intact? (i.e. the US Feed not 'overwritten' with Canadian commercials and other crap?)

Not that interested in the US commercials per say, just completely P.O. last year with the weird 'cut-ins' from commercials and the brain-dead 'additional commentary' from some idiot instead of the pros actually at the SuperBowl...

Cheers!

CaptainCanuck

PS
Yes, I am aware of sim-sub rules... just wondering if there is any workarounds due to all the HD, US, etc content now available??

Shaw Direct will be sim-sub free (in HD) if you don't live in Toronto.

Really??

Any info on which station/channel that would be?? Any chance you have that from them directly in some sort of 'hard copy' or email? :-)

When I talked to them today via telephone they said "No, substitution would be in effect." !?!?

Cheers!!

PS: I am located in Vancouver so this sounds GREAT if true! :-D

One other option that might be worth considering would be to put up an antenna to pick up the Super Bowl directly from the CBS affiliate in the nearest bordering US city. Since you live an Vancouver you may have luck getting the Super Bowl over the air from KIRO, the CBS affiliate in Seattle. The OTA Forum has tons of great information on this and helped me get started. I live in Toronto and OTA is the only legal way to watch the US super bowl commercials where I live.

You think that's going to help? It's live event so it begins at same time in all time zones. What are rules for simsub in that case?

I am trying out some OTA antennae this weekend to see if I can get CBS from Seattle... *fingers crossed that big frickin fir tree is NOT in the way*

I was trying to confirm 100% that 'xyz provider' will be offering the SuperBowl 'sim-sub free' and then I would sign-up with them asap! Hence my request from -rgto- for a contact person, advertisement, email anything I can 'hang my hat on' for a sim-sub free SuperBowl.

Cheers!

Shaw Direct told me this would not work?

Did I get a 'tard' CS? Or will that work?

753951: Last year, on Shaw and the previous years, the Time Shift channels did not get simsubbed, just the SD channel.

Was this via Shaw or Shaw Direct? (I had called Shaw Direct when they told me no...)

Cheers!

DSGamby's right as to previous years, Shaw did not simsub the time-shifted channels.

CTV filed a complaint with the CRTC against Shaw. Shaw was let off the hook in terms of any penalty for previous "failures" to simsub the Super Bowl on the time shifted channels but was ordered to do so in the future. Shaw agreed to comply with the order.

In other words, BDU's in Canada have been ordered to simsub time shifted channels as well. CTV's grip on this thing is complete.

CaptainCanuck: I have no clue as all I did was switch to the Time Shifted Channel but as JohnnyCanuck said, it is no more.

CaptainCanuck, I don't have anything in hard copy that it will be sim-sub free. But in previous years, Shaw Direct has shown the Super Bowl without sim-subs. Shaw Direct has CTV HD from Toronto and so, only Toronto was forced to watch sim-sub commercials. I'm expecting this year will be the same - fingers crossed.
