Default kp-46wt510 TV Problem - Convergence.

Hi I have a kp-46wt510 and i'm having a display problem. There is an attached picture of my problem. I have just finished replacing my 2 convergence chips at the back of the TV and i'm still having the same problem(warping in and colors off). Any help is very much appreciated. I have not changed any other components. If I have to change a resistor / capacitor is there a way to check them before I do?

What the TV looks like now:

See the following thread on the topic. Read post one and the links there carefully. It's almost impossible to check resistors, if you do it properly you have to cut one lead, so you might as well replace the resistors in the circuit. There's a list of other things in that post that people have done wrong or failed to do as well.

The TV has fuses how do I check those?

With an ohmmeter (multimeter). They should have almost zero resistance if they're fine and they should have infinite resistance if they're blown. They usually need to be removed to check properly because if you leave them in place, then the circuit may be completed by another route although if they're good, the zero resistance should show, while a circuitous route would show some resistance, depending on the scale/accuracy of your multimeter.

Well I found a burn resistor, by the power supply and I have replaced it. Now when I go to the convergence adjust options I am able to move the crosshairs left and right, but not vertically. The green/blue are pretty much perfectly lined up in both directions, but the red still looks warped. Is there still something wrong with the circuit boards? And should i keep checking all the resistors/fuses? Any idea where I should be focusing my search for burnt resistors?

Ok I took a picture of what the convergence look like. Don't mind the flash in the center of the picture, it was from my camera.

You still have an obvious convergence problem. The link in post 2 is all I can point you to, since post one of that thread and the links there have all available information. Read that post thoroughly and carefully - it indicates in great detail what needs to be done to correct the problem. It also outlines a list of things that people have done incorrectly, like replacing ICs and not resistors, etc.

Well I just found another 3.15 A pico fuse burnt out underneath one of the convergence chips. I replaced it with a 3 A pico fuse and it burnt out after I tried the TV again. I bought a 4 A pico fuse now and want to put it, but I'm afraid it might blow a different component. Any idea whats wrong and causing the fuse to blow? Was the 3 A pico fuse to low?

Default 46wt510

If the 46wt510 is like my 46wt500 check the G board for a fried 5a pico fuse. When my ICs went, so did a pico on the G board

If a fuse keeps blowing it means something is wrong. You should never increase a fuse beyond the rated value, else you may invent fire.

It's standard practice to replace the convergence chips and the pico fuses at the same time. It might be that you have a solder bridge causing a short.

Default My Sony KP53HS10 has the same problem

Just replaced the 2 convergence chips. Pico fuses on the power supply board are good as are the 4.7ohm resistors behind the heats sinks of the convergence chips. My screen is out focus only on the top and bottom blue and yellow are not aligned. Any tips?

If most of the screen is properly converged, then go into the user convergence settings as outlined in the operating manual and "fix" the rest of the screen, providing that the cursor moves the colours properly. I assume you mean green, not yellow as the three colours are red, green, blue.

Edit - often the green cannot be moved in the user convergence, only red/blue. Service convergence allows for full movement of all colours, usually best to straighten the green to an overlay or strings taped to the screen in appropriate places, then converge the red and blue to the green.

Thanks 57. I gotta check my connections inside the TV. everything "work" except the onscreen menu both user and service modes. Soon as I get the menu up, I'll send another post. Thanks for the response
