I sent an e-mail to EastLink in regards to updating the firmware on the Motorola DVRs to allow for external hard drives.

The bigger difference versus Shaw is that EastLink's customers are mostly renting the digital boxes. They may also not want to have to deal the extra issues associated with customers who buy the larger hard drive and have technical issues with it.

Thanks for sharing that info. Out of curiosity, how "out of date" is the DVR firmware on Eastlink boxes?
