hey there, I mean is it OK to run the coax and grounding wire, one right beside the other up to the roof, as opposes to keeping them both (parallel) separated by a certain distance...

NO, run coax to bonding point (meter ground as an example) and then use less then 10 ft of #12, 10, or 8 to bond it and then run coax to were you want to go. Why would you run ground that long and off the roof? ???

a grounding wire from the mast on the roof through a grounding block near the ground and on to a grounding rod that is a few feet away is the way to go.

i don't know a reason why the coax and grounding wire can't be placed near each other on the way down from the roof.
