Default Shaw 2009 New Channels Discussion

New Channels always generate a lot of discussion so this thread is for discussing new channels in 2009.

You're welcome to speculate and discuss new channels coming to Shaw Cable in 2009 but PLEASE unless it's been confirmed by an official press release, be clear about what is speculation and what is fact.

A post saying "a CSR said it was coming" is NOT official, however, it does put it in the "highly" likely category.

If its posted on the CRTC site that its been approved by the CRTC but Shaw Cable has not said anything, I would consider that in the "not very likely at this time" category.

I don't care if not all of its shows are in HD. Its a good start.

For those of us who don't have a CITYTV station locally (I suppose that would be Saskatchewan and Northern Ontario), a CITY HD feed would be nice. Unlikely in the extreme, but nice.

Ok, here's a guilty pleasure. How about Spike HD?

Default More would be nice...

I was speaking to a CSR at Shaw the other day, with regard to the sound drop-outs... I also mentioned that I would like to see more HD Channels, and not more sports ones - I think they have all been mentioned before, CNN, Spike, and just about anything that is already available in SD.

I am really confounded as to why they don't have more... I know it costs for every channel they add, but there is lots out there and HD is catching on even with those that are not early adopters any more.

Does anyone have a clue as to why they are so slow at adding new channels?

I hope they drop a few channels, hopefully improving their current "Youtube-like" quality.

That being said - there is no official confirmation of CNN HD yet, so I doubt we'll see it this year.

RUSH HD [rushhd.ca]

Looks like Shaw is the only provider in Canada that DOES NOT offer this channel.

TheIgster: Why would I want Global HD? There are a few shows that are shown on Global only that I like. Not everyone has the same taste in the programming they watch.

Yes but I think the deal with Global HD goes beyond programming which TheIgster stated its all about simsubbing that I don't think anyone wants Global HD for the foreseeable future. Not trying to pick on you by any means but I just want to mention that this seems to be the mutual debate in regarding the possible addition of Global HD. "Simsubbing"

Anyways yes the addition of rush HD, Equator HD and the others would be nice but quality issues need to be corrected before they do that.

@meatbird: NASA TV would be nice... I remember the old days (10 or 12 years ago) when we had it then some sort of CRTC squabble resulted in it being yanked.

NASA TV disappeared in Calgary around the same time the 30 diginets were added (Sep. 2001). The airport arrival and departure information channel for Calgary disappeared at the same time.

Calgary and area could be getting our local CTV station (CFCN) in HD soon. It is up and running OTA, and is on unencrypted on Shaw 120-1.

Nooo! Adds nothing to quality (local news in HD maybe?) but makes HD simsub possible now.
