Angry 5900 Refurbished

A couple of weeks ago my 5900 died, went through Tech Dept and got my refurbished 5900 a few days later for $149 + shipping. Now less than 2 weeks later with my "NEW" Refurbished, I get a "Serious Hard Drive Error" message and nothing is working. Is it worth my time to keep getting refurbished or will I keep getting dud receivers. Anybody have experience?

Is there no warranty on the refurbished unit?
Personally, I would keep the faulty receiver, (maybe not this one) and buy a used one online (craigslist, ebay)
For piece of mind, pay for dish care to protect the receiver, and then you can use the hard drive from your old "dead" 5900

Yes, there is a 3 month warranty, but I don't want to be sending for another one every 2 weeks and losing all my PVR Events. I was just wondering if anybody had any long term luck on a refurbished 5900 PVR.

Unplug the receiver and repolug it couple of minutes later. Sometimes it solves the "a serious problem has been detected with your harddrive" problem

Did that a few times, now it doesn't work at all.

Ouch!
I guess there is an even more serious problem!
I'm not a big fan of Refurb receivers, especially PVR's, as the HD is just another thing that can go wrong
Hopefully some refurb owners on the forum can offer you some reassuring words...
Good luck with the new refurb

Default 5900 no longer? New SD PVR?

After having bad luck with refurbished 5900 receivers, I went looking for a new one yesterday. I checked every electronics store (2 Future Shops, Best Buy, Bell/Aliant stores, etc), and they all told me that this receiver is no longer being produced and a new replacement SD PVR is coming soon. The only 5900s I was able to find were refurbished. Anyone hear of a new SD PVR coming out soon?

Nothing no one on here has mentioned. The sale's people can be confused with the 9242. Bell could sell old 9200's as SD PVR's perhaps, or the Dish 625 (which I believe is the same as the old 5200 bell removed from their inventory last year.)

Has anyone heard anything about a new PVR? I want to get my parents one as a gift in the near future (birthdays at the end of March). They have a TV that is not HD so video hookups from the box to the TV are a concern. I would like something with dual tuners so they could watch one show while recording another. They are currently *C customers so I was thinking of switching them to Bell to take advantage of switching promos. Cable is not an option as they live in the country.

Any thoughts or suggestions for alternative options are appreciated.

Could or can? Can someone confirm? I have a 9200 and I know it can't.

As of todays date, the 5900 is still showing on the Bell website. If the stores don't have them, call Bell.
