Ummm...I guess Toshiba forgot that the BD players also up-converts DVDs. So, that's not a plus over the other format. If they cannot turn the movie studios to their side, its a lost battle like Betamax. When one starts grasping at straw reasons, you know the company is going to throw in the towel.

It seems like a good marketing strategy to me. Does J6P know Blu Ray playes upconvert? I'd say alot don't. At $199 and $299 for the A30 and A35 respectively, I'm probably going to get one for now and wait to get a Blu Ray player when they reach a reasonable price point and have 2.0.

Since there's no value in promoting HD DVD players' ability to play a dying format, promoting their up-conversion capabilities seems like a smart thing to do.

I agree with eljay. Toshiba has a bunch of players which need s to be sold. The only reason to buy one now is as a good upconverting DVD player with the bonus of playing a soon to be obsolete HD format. To sell them they should be also cheap on the level of standard DVD player (which Toshiba already did).

Would you buy an HD DVD Player if you could get it at a fire sale price? If so - why?

It's a darned good upscaling DVD player that plays HD DVDs for the occasional movie that warrants HD. DVD is the only way to see the vast majority of movies. Good deal.
