Lightbulb I have the worlds first 3d HDTV

or at least that's what I see on my LG since this morning. I'm hoping someone can guide me in what might be the problem:

Last night, we were going to watch a movie on DVD on our LG 56 inch HDTV monitor. We watched maybe 5 minutes of the movie but instead, we decided to go watch it on the 144 inch screen in our theatre. We turned off the system as per normal and went downstairs.

This morning, I turned on the LG to watch the weather network and GASP!!! It had 3 colors and no convergence! I had 3 pictures Red, Green and Blue. It's like as if all of a sudden, all 3 guns have been misaligned. The picture is squished in the middle and it can't be brought back no matter what I tried. I did the auto convergence thinking it might help but no luck. I unplugged the TV for 30 minutes hoping it might "reset", again, no luck. I went in the hidden menu to see if there was a factory reset setting, nope. I think it's a component in the convergence circuit (capacitor or transistor) that went to heaven. Has anyone ever seen that before?

I enclosed a picture of what I'm seeing right now.

Also, as a bonus to pi$$ me off even more, I bought the set 4 years ago with extended warranty. It expired on....November 15th!!!! I'm 11 days too late. I asked if something could be done but of course, they can't do anything about it. It expired. End of story.

Looks like a fried convergence board or ICs or perhaps the convergence memory got wiped.

Have you tried to adjust the convergence? If it doesn't move at all then it's the board/ICs. If it moves and you can save the new settings then the memory was the problem. If it doesn't save, then the memory is toast.

I tried every convergence menu possible and it doesn't fix anything. At first I thought it might've been a power surge or something but my Belkin powersurge protector doesn't show any signs of spikes being removed. All of my HT eqpt was on there as well and they are all ok.

Now I'm weighing the good and the bad: do I want to spend x amount of $$ to have it fised or should I just spend just a bit more and get the latest?

This HDTV monitor has 2 resolutions: 540p and 1080i.

Have you tried other inputs, sources, or cables?

I'm saddened that three moderators would not know to go to the following thread where the issue and the fix, along with a sample photo have been discussed many times.

It's even a sticky (if you go to the appropriate forum - RPTVs). (This thread was originally posted in the FP forum.)

The fix typically involves replacing the ICs, the associated resistors and checking the convergence circuit for cracked solder.

I would check with the extended warranty people again (different person) as they sometimes give some leeway - Manufacturers being more lenient than if it was 3rd party warranty.

That is why we have 57 as a back up!!! I'll have to find some time to try it out but if I see the stk bla bla IC in there, I will know I'm on a good lead.
