Default HD DVD Backer Weinstein Goes MIA; Speculation Mounts

With no releases or announcements from the Weinstein Company in over four months, speculation is mounting that there are changes afoot for the HD DVD exclusive distributor.

Although the well-regarded indie had been among the HD DVD camp's most high-profile exclusive studio partners, releasing nearly a dozen titles over the first six months of this year (including 'Clerks II,' 'Lucky Number Slevin' and 'Scary Movie 4'), the studio has been uncharacteristically quiet in recent months.

I have been wondering this myself. Are they going to do what Fox did and stick to their side and make a big showing on HD DVD again or will they go neutral or will they go Blu?

I just hope they decide something and release their titles somewhere in hi-def.

(hypothetically) If they are basing their decision on past sales performance then I'm not surprised. Those titles are less than memorable and I highly doubt they even sold 10,000 copies combined.

actually looking at the list I would say 10,000 was too generous maybe 5k if they are lucky.

Yup, if Weinstein is indeed hurting then there's really no point to them putting any time, effort or money into any HD niche format.

Hopefully they will be back soon... and if you can't wait there's always the import option on some of their newer titles.
