nimiq1.........the picture is not showing up.
I will not be buying this receiver for sure. A hardware swap for very little money I would do though once channels start coming out that I can't view. |

I can see the pic....
As Q stated, I see no reason to upgrade my 2 9200's until they start broadcasting channels I can't receive. If they had included the larger HDD I might have been interested. |

I wonder how acuate the brochure is ... it also states that the guide is 2 days long. Maybe there is hope that the hard drive is also 500GB???

Bell doesn't show it nor does a search bring it up.
This is what I'm thinking. PLEASE poke holes in it. If they hold true, it will be $599 at least for 5 more hours and MPEG4. So if I buy the 9200 at $399 I save $200. In 18 months to 2 years approximately I could/will need to shell out $599 more. If BEV continues to broadcast the current HD channels on MPEG2, the 9200's will continue to work until BEV switches to 100% MPEG4 - which should be (?) 2-4 years in the future when they get a new sat (?) and still not immediately (probably..) when the new sat is up. The new HD channels will be MPEG4, which I would not get until I get the new receiver. Maybe by THAT time, BEV will offer something to the 9200 owners (slim) to help upgrade and/or the current receiver will be the 50+ hr receiver that THIS one should have been. SO...I could get 2-4 years of use from a 9200 or is that way too optimistic? This is also a 2nd PVR that I want to buy. By buying the 2nd 9200, I am increasing my recording time by 25 hours anyway so I have more than enough IMO. |

http://www.dishdepot.com/dish_receivers.jsp Our dollar is at par. I don't see how Bell can justify a $599 price for a unit with only 30 hour HDTV recording time. Also, I originally thought the USB port would allow you to record directly to the USB hard drive, but it seems like you can only move programs to/from it. So even if the USB port were enabled it isn't as useful as I thought. http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/o...hd/index.shtml Has anyone popped the top to see what model HDD is in the 9242 yet? BTW: 9200's are $298 (Page 7 - "save $300") at visions.ca in their online flyer. |

So likely the price difference it $200. Maybe the $100 programming credit applies to 9242 as well? |

Will it recognize PSIP data so that guide information can be provided for ATSC broadcasts? I hate all my recordings being labelled as "Digital Service".

I haven't done it yet, but can't you rename your recorded events?

Yes you can rename them, but that's not the point he's making. BEV's treatment of OTA is very poor, but that's to be expected since they understandably fear the competition. All we ask regarding OTA is that their receivers handle ATSC PSIP data so that proper guide use and program naming is automatically done, so it'll be interesting to see if this one does that.

So can I expect these to be available to be bought on Wednesday? I have been thinking about upgrading my receiver to a PVR and with the new ones coming out now is as good a time as any. Will you need to run two lines into this receiver (like the 9200) or can you run one. What type of wire do people run from the receiver to TV2? For me, the receiver will probably be downstairs, or maybe upstairs, but the two tv's are in the same area of the house, just in opposite corners. Will these receivers have basically the same parts as the 9200, especially considering the SD decoders in the box as I've heard the 9200 handles SD and even HD better then the 6100.

I've just recently aquired a 9200 and then yesterday upgraded to the new 9242.
I have 2 questions I'm hoping someone might have an answer to. 1: Can you down load or pull off programs from the 9242 and record onto another device (like a computer hard drive or DVD) 2: With both 9200 and 9242 I have sound interuptions. They are only for a fraction of a second but it's annoying as hell, especially of you are trying to listen to a concert on HD NET. |
