Hi what can I do about Echoing on Shaw digital phone as it just started up a couple days ago. I have phoned Shaw and they reset the terminal. Is anyone else experincing this thanks.

Was the phone okay before? If so, I presume you are hearing your own voice being echoed? If yes then it's a Shaw problem and you'll need to keep calling them.
Let us know what they say and how it turns out.

The problem might need to be resolved by a software patch at SHAWS end but chances are you have a low SNR problem on the Downstream channel or Upstream channel causing packet loss and latency. A fluctuation in latency causes a condition called jitter which will in turn cause echo. Hope this answers your question. Upstream SNR issues could be due to noise issues, like common-path, ingress, or impulse or Hum modulation. Downstream can also be affected by Hum Modulation, and high signal input to an amplifier. These issues are easy to resolve by a trained technician with good diagnostic equipment.

Update: I phoned Shaw up again this afternoon they told me there sending this issue to their network operations techs and I will get a call back in 24 hours. What good can network operatons do?

my friend in Langley/Surrey area has Primus phone IP service thru his Shaw ISP, and 50-70% of the calls have an echo. It sometimes clears up if we disconnect and the other party calls. Mostly, the echo is on the other person's end that is chatting with him. So far Primus & shaw have no solution, they did turn down some frequency thing, (he as to do that when he runs his fax thru the line) Shaw has blamed him for being on his PC, when he wasn't.

yes we have just changed to shaw and are experiencing an echo. Calls to shaw indicate that they are having issues with some of there switches. How ever from what I can find out they are in no great hurry to fix the
issue. |

I also just started to experience echos on long distance calls. I have had Shaw's phone ever since the first day they launched in Calgary. I experienced echos for the first few months of service, but they resolved this problem. Now it has come back.

For those of you experiencing this problem, I'll do some digging and see if there's any known issues causing this echoing. If you'd like to pm me with your account details and reference this thread I'll be able to escalate it if I don't find anything.

I have had this issue also, but it stopped awhile back.
My friend also said one conversation we had was reeeeeaally loud on his end while I was getting the eco on mine. Oh yeah, different issue, but when my father tries to call me from Ontario, it says my number does not exist. It's the only instance I have had. Everyone else seems to get through. (Local.......and 1-8XX solicitor numbers. |

Long-time Shaw phone, Internet & cable (Gateway) customer... I also just recently began experiencing poor call quality the past 2-3 weeks, has been rock solid for years. Interestingly the problem started right around the time my Gateway system was installed... -Coincidence?
