I have a 25-30 feet tower with an ordinary uhf vhf antenna with a CM7777. I use it iwth the 30inch Sanyo tv that i bought at Wal Mart for 650$. The digital tuner is pretty amazing on it. It pick up signal much better than my Samsung T165 (with active firewire). I'm not talking about my crappy digital off air tuner that i bought for my Expressvu 6000....
With the Vermont station that will pop up next fall, i plan to stack up another antenna( 8 bays, probably). I will then be able to have one antenna pointing Mount Royal and another one pointing Mount Mansfield. I will probably have to tune manually channel 57 siince it is on Lyon mountain, NY(i think)... |

As the Vermont stations becomes available next fall, here in Montreal we'll have a possible problem with the abc affiliate WVNY. Why? Because it will operate on channel 13 (VHF) at 10Kw. You have channel 12 in Montreal who operate at 100Kw!!!!! What the signal will look like when they lit up WVNY?
Also, as soon as we get CIVM on channel 27, we will loose the PAX (analog) The rest of the channels will come in cristal clear. Here is a view of the acutal and future DTV channels in Montreal: 02 A CBFT SRC 03 A WCAX CBS 05 A WPTZ NBC 06 A CBMT CBC 10 A CFTM TVA 12 A CFCF CTV 13 (22) D WVNY ABC 14 (05) D WPTZ NBC 17 A CIVM RQC 19 (02) D CBFT SRC 20 (06) D CBMT CBC 21 (12) D CFCF CTV 22 A WVNY ABC 27 A WBII PAX 27 (17) D CIVM RQC 32 (33) D WETK PBS 33 A WETK PBS 35 A CFJP TQS 38 (57) D WCFE PBS 42 (35) D CFJP TQS 43 (44) D WFFF FOX, WB 44 A WFFF FOX, WB 46 A CKMI GLOBAL 51 (46) D CKMI GLOBAL 53 (03) WCAX CBS 57 A WCFE PBS 59 (10) D CFTM TVA 62 A CJNT CH 69 (62) D CJNT CH |

thanks! that's quite the list.. wow
This morning while paying rent I asked my landlord for permission to erect an antenna and he had no problems with it - so I'll go shopping this weekend. This is only a hobby for me.. I've got Videotron as my main HDTV supplier. Plus.. technically I don't have a HDTV set yet I would be happy just to get the big five next year from the States.. and the Montreal channels. I've got an ATSC card in the computer now (Avermedia A180) and can tune in SRC with rabbit ears when the weather is good. The resolution is stunning. I'm not quite sure where to buy a good antenna locally. I know of Addison Electronique in the east end. I'll check them out this weekend. Channel Master lists them as one of their suppliers however they have no CM gear on their website. |

Kafou, what is your location? Also do you know which brand/model of antenna that old one is, or if not can you describe what it looks like?

I'm from Mascouche near Montreal, I don't know which antenna it is but I soon as I can, I will take some pictures so you can help me discover which one it is. It's a pretty standard antenna. I take a look at the signal strength on my TV and for SRC I have 70%, for CBC 28% and PBS 28%. Maybe with this tool, I will be able to fine tune the position of the antenna to have a better signal. Thanks Kafou |

Hi,
I have a picture of my antenna, can you tell witch it is? Today I adjust my antenna to have a better signal for SRC and CBC Montreal. Now I got 84% for SRC, 70% for CBC and 65% for 2 PBS stations. Kafou |

It is difficult to tell from the picture but it looks to me like the Yagi is pointing in one direction and the bow tie UHF is pointing in the opposite. This of course could be because the signals you want are coming from opposite directions concidering the fact that there isnt a rotor on the antenna's. Just courious and I could be wrong.

As of today, 3 stations are available:
2-1 (19) SRC comes in at 90% ( Very low power ) 6-1 (20) CBC comes in at 90% ( Very low power ) 57-1 (38) PBS comes in at 65% (7.5 Kw) 57-2 (38) PBS comes in at 65 % (7.5 Kw) The Sanyo is pretty amazing in getting stations!!!!!! |

I am also interested in DTV as I am already off the cable and live in St-Bruno.
I already get CBS (3), NBC (5), ABC (22), PBS (57), PBS (33) from the US using a cheapo antenna in the attic (DAE-100C 40$) without a rotor. I am somewhat elevated in the mountain, so this certainly helps but now I would like to go Digital with a Sanyo HT30744 TV. Thanks, Robert |

Hi Robert, you could use a VHF/UHF combo antenna like a Wade-Delhi 936SR with the UHF Power Zoom enhancer kit to keep things simple, but unless you put it on a rotor there is a problem. Since you're on the south side if you point the antenna to the Vermont/NY stations you will have the Montreal stations at the rear where most antennas don't have much gain.
If you want to go with just a UHF I would suggest a CM4228, which will probably get the Montreal stations through its rear lobe, and for a separate VHF/FM I would go with a Wade Delhi 306 and you'd probably get the Montreal VHFs on it (not guaranteed because it has excellent rearward rejection). You could try it though and if the results are satisfactory then fine, but if they don't come in well you could take it down (much easier with a combo antenna) and remount it on a rotor or just put whichever antenna(s) you choose on a rotor in the first place. |

Hi Robert,
Do you have the tv yet? I'm in Greenfield Park and SRC, CBC and PBS are all coming in pretty strong. |
