I thought I read somewhere there will be a 42 inch version coming out later this year. Is this true? Cant find any information on there site does anybody know anything?
Also how many different 45 inch Aquos are there? Is the 40U the lowest model you can get in 45 inch? |

I was talking to my Home Theatre dealer (an authorized Sharp dealer) today about the new displays coming in September. He told be that Sharp will have a 52" 1080P display (that WILL accept 1080P in ... their current 65" set will not) ... price ... CA$4999!!!

Sweet im from BC also like the rest of you on this thread. Im hoping to get a new tv before NFL starts. Im afraid to get a plasma because of the amount of use this tv will get by several different family members throughout the day and at night and dont want burn in. So im leaning toward LCD and I heard Sharp puts out the best LCD tv's on the market right now.

However, what concerns me is this ... I read recently that after 2 years come owners are noticing a siqnificant reduction in brightness. I have been putting an increasing amount of hours on my Sony KV36XBR. 1200 hours in 2004. 1500 hours in 2005. And a projected 1800 this year (already at 1000 hours with the busy fall season just around the corner). Which means in over the next 5 years I will put on about 9000 hours on my viewing screen! I have been looking for a widescreen TV to replace my 4:3 Sony for about a year. 33" in widescreen just isn't large enough for movies and sports. I am looking for 50-55" (about the max that will fit between my front home theatre speakers). I am also looking for 1080P with 1080P input. I was strongly considering Hitachi's and Fujitsu's new 1080P plasmas that also will be coming out in the fall. However, I would be looking at CA$11,000 for the Fujitsu and probably about CA$8000 for the Hitachi ... a lot of money to put out if the screen is going to start fading after 2 years. The Sharp 1080P LCD makes much more sense money wise ... especially if after 5-6 years I want to go to the new SED technology ... or similar more advanced screens. LCD screens really suffered in the past because of their slow refresh rate which resulted in a lot of blurring on fast action sequences. However, I understand they now have the same refresh rate as plasmas. Also, 42" was the maximum size in the beginning which was just a bit too small ... that barrier has been broken in the past year. So, I will be taking a long hard look at the new Sharp 52" LCD in October. It may be my best option.

I would like to test my TV for banding issue from the service menu.
Could you please provide step by step guidelines how to enter to the service menu and then step out without making any damage for my TV ? Any news from Sharp Canada ? Do they aware about the problem ? I'm considering to return my set to BB in Toronto, but I'm simply in love with my 46" Sharp. This banding issue drives me crazy. I do not see it on any sources, but I know - it is there I'd better stop reading AVS d62u thread. Also, looks like the 46" price is going down and I'm week before expiration date with BB. This TV would be a perfect one without knowing about the banding issue. By the way. I had to send the guarantee's letter (included with TV) to Sharp Canada during my first 10 days, but I already keep the TV for more then 2 weeks. Do you think there will be a problem if I send them the guarantee right away ? (in case I make up my mind and decide to keep it) Thank you a lot ! |

Here's a link to the instructions to get into the service menu, created by someone on AVSForum...
http://docs.google.com/View?docid=dt5d79n_1z54pwb
Once in the menu, press any of the numbers on the remote to bring up a grey test screen, pressing the same number again turns the test off. Note, it's not recommended to change any of the settings in the menu. Turning the TV off exits the service menu. If you could take pictures of how your set looks with grey test on I would appreciate it. I'd like to know how mine compares. |

Yep, just called Sharp Canada, and they were clueless about the problem, as sharpguy said. I also sent them an email, but I'm not holding my breath.
Guess I'll have to try one round of returns from the retailer. |

Ok... I went yesterday to the BB store where I purchased my 46" beauty back to October 30.
First of all, the "floor manager" was really impressed about the price I've got and said that they sell most of the 46" Sharps no less then 3200$ + extended warranty. He said I've got some sort of first customer "promotion price". I asked him is it possible to extend my return policy by January 30 since I've got the TV with banding and I would like to deal with Sharp directly regarding this issue. That's how we started our negation process He wasn't agree to extend my return policy since there are 54 peoples who preordered this TV and they have to get only 46 from the new stock. Instead, he was given the extended warranty for 4 years for 300$ + he promised to deliver the one from the new stock and pick up the old 46" for free. He said that with the extended warranty I could exchange my TV as many times as I want (in case of any problems, or they will simply fix it). I hope 10$ per months doesn't make a huge different on the price, but gives me a little piece of mind. They have to deliver the replacement this Saturday, so I'll give you an update. Again, I very like the TV, especially the quality on SD. I've got a new Viewsat Ultra and even on standard definition the picture quality is amazing. BTW: He said that I'm the first one who complain about banding. I'm going to stop reading the AVS forum as soon as I get my replacement and make sure it has no banding issues |

I have completed my research and I am ready to pull the trigger on the 46" Sharp LCD.
I spoke to someone at Future Shop and they said I could get it for $2950.00 but I'm sure I can do better. Can anyone provide feedback for better pricing or a good place to haggle on this set? I live in the Edmonton Alberta region. Thanks in advance. |
