Has anyone compared the two models I have mentioned? I was pretty much set on the HLR5064W I can get a good deal (Well I think its good deal) for just under $2400. Is the HLR5064 that much better and does anyone know where you can get it in the London Ontario area and what the cost is ??
thanks |

I just got back from the Brick in London and they are getting the 5078W towards the end of November. Price $4999. To me I would rather save the $2500 and get the 5064W. I really can't compair the picture difference as I have not seen it but how many devices are actually broadcasting a 1080p???
I would really like some opioins of how people are likeing their HL R5064W. Is there lag in certain situations...IE gameing with Xbox?? |

I don't have the Samsung 1080p xx78 version, but I do have the xx68 version. Both sets have identical innards, are both 1080p (the latest chip from Texas Instruments that all DLP TVs use). There is a slight cosmetic or case difference, but that's it. The picture is stunning with a High Definition input through my Rogers cable box. I'm sure the picture is equally stunning on a comparable Sony or Toshiba. There is no "obviously better" model out there. They all provide excellent pictures, so long as they are 1080p. The 5064 model you are looking at is not 1080p, it is a 720p model, and is not quite a sharp, and will have lower contrast ratios, something like 2000:1 versus 10,000 to one. There are other differences too. However, if you are limited to a 50 inch TV, and are going to sit about 10 feet back, you may not notice a significant difference to warrant the additional cost. The big advantage of a 1080p "big screen" (58 - 70+ inch diagonals) is that you can sit closer and there is no loss of quality. The manual of my 61 incher says I can sit 7.5 feet from the TV if I wish. I've tried it with HD material, and there's no problem at all. I actually sit at about 10 feet. My experience in talking with friends and colleagues at work is that more often than not, people wish they had bought the next size up. What looked like a huge TV in the store compared to that old 27-33 inch tube, doesn't look so huge in your house after a month or so. For some reason it shrinks. The 5064 has been out, and for sale at Best Buy for a while. Keep pestering readers of this site for a review, and read as much as you can on this site regarding all TVs. It is a hunk of change you are going to plop down. Good Luck |

I know this is an older post, but I just saw the both of these models side by side in calgary and hands down the 78 series is brighter, sharper and smoother picture.
The 61" was priced at $4200, so it definately made me think I can probably get it for $4k or less and is what I am most interested in until I can see what a JVC Lcos looks like. |
