Default Remote Control recommendations

I am looking to purchase a new universal remote. I am needing RF capabilities and am looking at the URC MX-3000 or one of the Phillips Pronto models. I am looking for suggestions, recommendations and any other remotes that would be good substitutes in/around this price range.

Why not a harmony? This has been asked quite a bit so try searching the forums for previous recommendations.

Harmony 880 by far. Picked one up for approx $250 incl taxes and shipping and it does everything and anything.

It is also the most simplest universal remote I have ever setup.

Currently it is controlling: TV, DVD, Amp, PVR

Thanks for the posts - BUT... I need RF capabilities and the 880 does not do that. I have read (yes Hugh I have read other threads) that a Harmony RF remote is coming out but I haven't seen it yet and it is not on Logitech/Harmonys home page.

Check out RTI remote controls. They support RF capabilities and have lots of flexibility.

The site is www.rticorp.com

Let me know if you need more information on their remotes.

The Harmony 890 is Logitech's new RF remote available in November according to this press release:

Arrow Marantz RC-5400

I would recommend the Marantz RC-5400. At $800, I suspect it is more expensive than the MX-3000 ('cause I don't know how much the MX-3000 is) but the Marantz is a fantastic remote.

http://ca.marantz.com/Products/526.asp

I have had the RC-5200 for 3½ years and still love it. Tactile feedback is not the greatest on the LCD screen but it is so convenient and easy to program on the computer.

I have panels (on the remote) for my daughter and wife with their preferences and you can keep the controls (and labels) the same even when you change equipment. Possibilities are almost endless. If your budget allows it, do it!

I have read the FULL review of the Philips ProntoPro NG TSU7000 and Marantz RC9500 at www.remotecentral.com - I believe the 9500 is the step up from the 5400 (Pronto has just released the 7500).

They sound like phenomenal remotes (as does the MX-3000 - FYI, it is more than the Pronto or the Marantz). I am willing to plunk down the coin but I want to make sure I am making the right decision as it is no small chunk of change for a remote.

From what I have read the MSRP is going to be for the 890 - I believe the 7500, or MX-3000 would be more bang for the buck.

Please pick away at my theory. :-)

The Harmony is a sensible remote, easy to program and doesn't cost a fortune. It's a great remote and will probably do 95% of everything you'll ever need.

Think of the Pronto/Marantz more as an expensive toy than just a remote (I mean that in a GOOD way). There's so much you can do with thing it'll blow your mind. If you find spending endless hours on the PC tinkering, customzing, tweaking etc fun (and lot's of peope do) then you'll LOVE this thing. You almost need a degree in computer science to make it work but if you're into that kind of thing and can afford the sticker price you can't go wrong. If any of that scares you, go with the Harmony...it's still pretty cool!

Smile prices are dropping on the 880

I pick up a harmony 880 today off ebay. Toronto seller for $200.00 pick up no shipping. That is a savings of $145.00.

Even the wife is excited!

Placed the order for an 880 remote this morning. In life, we go around only once! May as well make the best of it.

Default Remote Question

I assumed that the remote that came with my 315 reciever was not CD Player compatable but wondered about the AUX button. I also noticed in the manual that there is a section listing codes for CD Players. Now, That got me wondering if there is some way to control my Mp3/CD Player with my remote.
Any help will be Appreciated, Thank You.
Remote Details:

Default Too many remote controls, Would really appreciate some help

Hi,
I am going to try my best to keep this question short for you.

How it used to be before our new TV:
I used to switch both my audio and video through my receiver.
So no matter what input you selected, both the audio and video would switch appropriately.

How it is now :
The new TV has HDMI and Component Video. So now I am running fiber to the audio inputs on my amp and each device has it’s own input on the TV. To make things worse the DVD has to be my input 1 on the TV because of the HDMI input but the button on my receiver says DVD, That makes the cable box input 2 on the TV but input 1 on the receiver because of the fiber input… add my daughters PS2 which is input 3 on TV and input 2 on the receiver into this scenario and lets just say that the TV is not used much unless I am home.

My receiver remote (Onkyo 4 years old) has no programmable codes for my cable box (Cogeco Motorola 6412) or my new Samsung DVD player. On that same note my new TV remote (Hitachi 50V500) has no programmable codes for any of the same devices above as well.

I know there is probably not a clear-cut answer to my problem, but if someone could just point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.

Sorry I really tried to keep this short,
Thanks for reading

Not to worry, a Harmony Remote is the answer. Here's the link for the Harmony Remote forum here at DHC:
