Default Copying shows from 9200 onto dvd recorder or computer

I am pleased with my new 9200. I recorded some great shows and would like to now copy them to my computer or to a dvd recorder...is this possible ?

See the Digital Home FAQ "Recording HD". You can copy programmes to a stand-alone DVD recorder, but only in 480i.

Only easy way to to hook up a DVD burner to your 9200 and record / rip them to PC that way. Unfortunately the firewire port is disabled and the data stored on the HD is encrypted so even ripping the HD out of the 9200 and dumping to a PC is not possible.

There's some exellent discussion on transferring material from the PVR for the Bell 5X00 series here. But unlike the 9200 the data stored on the HD for the 5100 is unencrypted so it's possible to do a direct digital rip with that hardware specifically... Good reason not to sell that 5X00 just yet when you upgrade to a 9200!

Is this really true? Although you can't "rip the HDD out and read it", I thought that people with Motorola DVRs (6208, 6412) are capable of downloading the .ts files to their PCs via firewire.

The firewire port on the SA DVRs (SA8X00HD) is not activated, so we're not sure about them...

If the firewire were active on the SA and BEV HD DVRs, they would likely be just as "readable" as the Motorola DVRs.

Some people are also copying from their Motorolas to D-VHS.

We BEV and SA customers will have to wait for an active firewire port...

This is basically all discussed in the FAQ.

Well the first problem is that there is no firewire port on the 9200.

From what I have read anything after the 5900 is encrypted. To me all that means is that it isn't as easy as it was with the 5900.

Default Can I record from the 9200 HD or not?

I just bought a 9220 system today. Could not buy the 9200 by itself. The box had a Bell sticker on it instructing the retailer (A&B SOUND) to only sell the system to Existing customers. There was a 9200 sticker placed over each 9220 sticker on the box. This all seems very strange.

What do you mean about encrypted? I have not opened the 9200 (9220) box yet. Are you guys saying that you can't record programs from the hard drive to a DVD recorder or a VHS tape? If this is the case then I am taking it back and will get a Sony RDR-H715 DVD RECORDER with the hard drive.

One other question for a current 9200 owner. Can you confirm on screen or in the 9200 manual.....what type of signal can be output from the component output. Is it the same as the 6100 (1080i, 720P, 480P, this is my understanding about the 6100) component output. I was hoping to be able to make dvd's from the 9200 component output (hoping it outputs from the tuner and the HD) connected to the Sony 715 component input. I do not yet know if the Sony component input will accept a 480P signal (maybe not). This is all very frustrating and I can't believe or understand the reason for no S-Video output on the 9200. If they want to block and stop us from having a copy of anything .......then I may just quit BELL or any other provider that feels that this is the type of service I will pay for.

Thanks

Default Pulling video off of PVR

Aside from running the video through a DVD recorder, is there anyway to pull video off of the PVR, i.e. the USB port?
