Almost every time i change form one channel to another i lose sound. when i click it back and forth a couple of times the sound comes back ?
This also happens when i'm watching a saved show and i use "fastforward" to speed through commercials and then hit "play". The sound doesn't come back on until i rewind and try again ? Any ideas ? And Thakns in advance. Bob

Are you using the 8000? I had to have mine replaced because of the same problem. It was driving me nuts.

Whenever you have these kinds of problems, you need to advise us;
STB make, model connector - coaxial or optical or analogue A/V receiver - make, model any other pertinent data - like if it only happens on digital channels, stuff you've recorded, etc.

Sorry guys - Here's the info:
SA 8000HD Connection: Coaxial A/V receiver: Yamaha RXV 2200 Any other pertinent: - It happens on stuff that i've recorded, but only after i "fastforward" and return to "play" or when i first press "play". - It also happens when i change channels when watching live TV. I have to flick the channels back and forth until the sound comes back on. - I noticed it on digital channels mostly (or on saved material as mentioned above) Thanks again, Bob

By the sound of it, since it doesn't happen all the time, it may be your STB. Before taking it back, if you have a composite video cable, give that a try instead of your current coaxial.
if you have access to an optical cable give that a try... If you have another input on the receiver, give that a try. Some people have had audio problems with the SA8000HD, although I have a Yamaha RX-V1 connected via coaxial to my SA8000HD, without difficulty.

In the past I had a bit of trouble with this problem. It was really bad at first because I'd put the STB on the bottom of a stack of equipment blocking about half of the vents on the top of the STB. The problem went away after I moved the STB to its own shelf with lots of airflow. The problem comes back from time to time but a reboot will get rid of it for a while.

Again so many people are having these problems I personally do not beleive it is a hardware issue. (Now if I just had access to rogers problem support DB :-) |

I have also had this problem - I have all the same things as BBD.
It seems to happen when I go from ch. 172 to ch. 176 - it thne happens when I am in my HD channels - I normally lose sound to all my channels except the analog ones. If I leave it on the analog ones for about a minute and go back - it seems to work fine, if not then I do a hard reboot. Is there a number of times before my STB will not function cause of the multiple reboots? |

I had to unplug my 8000HD from the wall outlet on Sunday to move it. And of course it rebooted when i plugged it back in. I'm gonig to cross my fingers and hope for the best, but i havn't had my "losing sound" problem since the reboot ??
Wish me luck. Bob

I posted a note about this problem a couple of weeks ago. Only one person replied and indicated he was having the same issue. So it's a bit of a relief to see so many people complaining about the same issue. (it's not just me obviously)
My equipment: SA 8000HD PVR Yamaha RXV 741. Using digital audio output from SA box to the receiver. Video to TV is Component (not that this should matter since it's a sound issue). I was so tired of this recently I got a service guy in from Rogers and he said he suspected firmware was the problem, and that there would be no guarantees a new box would be any different. My box has its own shelf, plenty of air to cool it (someone suggested their problem might be the blocking of the cooling vents). It happens when I rewind or FF and then press play, I have to repeat the action, sometimes several times, to get sound back. If I switch channels immediately after watching a recorded program, I sometimes get the problem. It's worse lately. With everyone complaining about this, and the variety of hardware and connections we all collectively use, this can't be an installation problem or something that's caused by a particular HT component that's attached to the box. It must be either a systemic hardware (design) problem in the box, in which case we're all screwed if we own it (I do), or a firmware problem. If firmware, hopefully this will get resolved soon, but more to the point, are the powers that be at Rogers aware of it and how widespread it is? I had a service guy in, and he's now aware of it if he wasn't already. But he probably cannot escalate this sufficiently high in the Rogers hierarchy. How can we, as customers do this? Who do we contact and how? |

I've seen this some with the 8000HD. Rebooting often eliminates the problem.
One thing of note though, I was having signal problems, and after they came and put some new cable outside, I have a much better signal, all my stations, and I haven't seen the sound problem since! Could it be related to signal strength? Nick |
