My father-in-law was doing some yard work today and he accidentally cut one through one of the RG6 lines. We tried to add a male connector to the exposed ends and connected them to a female coupler. When we turned on one of the safs, certain channels were fine but then others would have a hard time appearing. The second sat however won't show picture at all. How can we fix this? We have a sw44 laying around and I was thinking of cutting the 2nd line coming from the sat and have the 2 lines go into the switch and have 2 coming from the house connected to the switch. Will this work?

To have a good quality connection, you needs to splice the wire with compression fit rg6 ends after stripping it back with a coax stripper and folding the shielding wire back (the braided wire just below the outer sheath. Maybe you can find a friend or someone who who knows someone that has the tools. Takes minutes.
What some people might do is buy the tools at a hardware store, use them and return when done. Not exactly ethical, but one use isn't going to make them look used. Good luck!

Is it possible that more than one line was damaged.

Make sure the female splice connector is rated for 3 Ghz.
Go to worldwidesatellites.com located in Ontario and click on "connectors", you will find two kinds - an F-barrel 1.5 GHz & an F-barrel 3 GHz, choose the 3 GHz one. |
