Anybody ever tried Unlimitel for VOIP? It seems like they can port my phone number and voip.ms cannot.
Thank you! |

Did you search. I see other threads discussing this company.

I did search and there is a few comments, but they are pretty old. I tought Unlimitel was a big company, but there is not much info about the reliability on the internet.

They were bought out by Primus..
Primus announced today that it has acquired Unlimitel Inc., a technological leader in the area of VoIP and SIP-based products. If VoIP.ms can't port your number then no one can... it's simply has nothing to do with the VoIP providers... it's to do with the company your currently with, like Bell, that has some kind of technical limitation and can't port this line number. This can happen if the number belongs to an old exchange like in a rural area. |

I checked with CRTC and with Bell upper management and my phone number is portable. I contacted back voip.ms, and here is what the wrote:
"We have confirmed the information again, we are not saying is not possible to port your number with the cooperation from Bell, however we currently don't have carriers that support the process for that specific rate center." Strange... |

Could this be that, just like they don't have DIDs for certain areas, if your phone number is in that area it cannot be ported either? That's the first thing that comes to mind based on that reply. Where do you live?

I lived in Ste-Therese, Quebec. They say DID portability is "unsupported" for this territory, but they do have new DID for Ste-Therese.
I really don't understand. |

Weird. There are some VoIP pros over at the DSLReports VoIP forum who may know why that is.
