Default Rogers going digital but need PVR,, how?

Ok, so Rogers has gone digital and is supplying the Cisco DTA50 which has its own tuner. Urghh!!!

When I heard Rogers was supplying digital adapters I thought it was just going to be decoders. But the added tuner creates a problem with my Hauppauge tuner/PVR installed in my HTPC.

So what is the simplest solution to get around this.

I would still like to have a PVR within my HTPC but don't know how so with the Rogers Cisco unit.

Ultimately I'd like to record one channel while watching another.

The Hauppage HD-PVR should work.

I found a solution on another forum.

What I have to do is get another Cisco DTA50 from Rogers
One for the TV and one dedicated to the Hauppauge 2250
Then I'll be able to record other TV programs on other channels on the Hauppauge.
Though I'll lose the ability to program via WMC and all other programming via WMC. I will have to look for a solution for that.

If you check the Hauppauge FAQ on the 2250 it clearly states it cannot do STB HD (and good old Rogers encrypts even SD).
Hauppauge says the HD-PVR will record from a STB.
You have another option but this thread is for "blue" so I am not allowed to talk about "yellow".

Several options are available.

1. Obtain another Cisco DTA50. That will allow recording or watching of up to 2 channels. The downside is that picture quality will be fairly poor.
2. Obtain a second cable box with composite video out. This will provide a slightly better picture and also allow option 3 below.
3. Connect the 2250 tuner(s) to an antenna. There is lots of info in the OTA forum on this so please discuss there. The HUGE advantage to OTA is that US and Canadian networks are available in high definition, providing better picture and sound. US networks also provide subchannels with content not available in Canada.

He never said he wanted HD. If he was using analog cable before than he was watching in SD anyway.

You might be able to use the PC to control the DTA via an IR blaster.
