It seems Shaw Direct is dropping HDNet on March 20th.
One would assume the same will happen to Shaw Cable. Stay tuned.

With the changes coming to HDNet when they re-brand it mite not be that much of a loss. While I still enjoy it even though they have cut out the movies they are going to be axing Art and Deadline and any shows that are "adult" orientated, turning the station in some kind of "entertainment tonite" channel.
I will miss the concerts on Sunday as that is supposed to remain but at 4 bucks a month=bye bye HDNet. |

HDNet served its purpose but it's not needed anymore.

I hope this isn't true. I realize the change means the end to the adult oriented programming. But it also means I lose coverage of the College Basketball Invitational tournament. Yes the teams aren't nearly as good as those who make the Big and Little Dance, but I enjoy seeing colleges you wouldn't see otherwise.

So I wonder if when HDNet becomes AXS if Shaw will even bother getting it. Reading the website about the change, I'm not too impressed. The last thing we need is another Entertainment channel with more award shows, parties, etc. Isn't there already enough of this stuff on TV??? With the switch to more family-oriented programming, I will not be sending SHAW an extra $3.95 for anything resembling what AXS is claiming it will be. The quirky shows is what amde this channel fun and enteratining.

Ryan Seacrest is officially getting into the cable network ownership business. The American Idol host is teaming with entrepreneur Mark Cuban, talent agency CAA and concert giant AEG in a joint venture to rebrand Cuban’s cable network HDNet into a live entertainment and lifestyle programming channel.
Starting this summer, HDNet will become AXS TV, which will draw on live event productions, such as concerts, provided by AEG, which owns the Staples Center, Nokia Theatre and other facilities. “This is a major step on our way to offering more live programming than any other entertainment and lifestyle network,” said HDNet co-founder Cuban. Seacrest’s company Ryan Seacrest Media will have an ownership stake and provide access to celebrity and brand relationships, plus develop and produce programming for the network. ”Over the last year, we’ve been diligently working with our partners AEG and CAA to strategize and explore how we could deliver quality live entertainment and lifestyle programming to a large audience,” Seacrest said. “HDNet is the perfect partner to help us translate our vision into a reality, giving us an instant reach into 35 million homes when we rebrand the channel.” Some HDNet programming will continue on the channel, such as HDNet Fights, Inside MMA, Dan Rather Reports and some non-scripted series.
