What type of switch or splitter is this ? - Canadian TV, Computing and Home Theatre Forums

I went to visit my friends new house and Bell had been out to install his dish and the wiring looks strange. There are 2 - 9242 receiver, so I was expecting to see 2 coax coming out of the wall to each receiver, but there was only 1 coax which went into a 3 port connecter, from there, 2 stubby cables into both tuners on the back of the 9242 ? (it looks similar to a SW21, but this is NOT a SW21, it wired backwards at the receiver)

I checked the dish on the roof and could see the SW44, but only 2 coax running down into the house (1 coax to each 9242 - direct runs)

What type of switch or splitter is this that bends 2 feeds into 1 coax and then splits it back into 2 feeds at the receiver ? ... there were no markings on this switch or splitter :-(

sure beats having to run 2 coax to each receiver

The setup is probably a DPP twin lnb with a DPP44 switch and that connector with stubby wires is a DPP separator, basically this is a Diplexer and only works with DishPro compatible receivers

So where can I find a list of BEV receivers that are DishPro compatible ?

All current receivers are dishpro compatible. Only a dual tuner receiver can use the DPP separator.

It could also be that the dish was set up with an SW44 at one point, but swapped to a DPP Twin, and the SW44 was left at the dish. I've seen this before. If there are only 2 receivers hooked up there is no advantage in having a DPP44 installed. If you want to know for sure, just run a check switch.

JoeLouie, Confirm one thing, I had read somewhere back way when that they had to take back the SW44, or am I wrong ?

No, there is no policy for removing or returning the SW44, Power Inserter etc.

I advise leaving at the Dish if it is a pain to remove, or if it is easy and the Customer is decent, let them keep it.

Like Pinza said, there is no policy saying it is to be removed and returned, but I usually advise removing it if it's not being used. It makes it easier for the CSR troubleshoot with the customer. If they look up at the dish and see an SW44 (but can't tell if it's hooked up or not), it's more complicated than if there's just simply no SW44 there. No need in confusing them any more than they usually are lol.
