Quite an excellent assortment of MGM titles are available at good ol' Wallymart for $8.66...
I picked up 'The Great Escape' (1961) last night. Wonderful addition to my collection. ** Methinks the $6.88 bin shall bear no more fruit

This movie is dirt cheap everywhere (not as low as Wal-Mart though). The 2 disc version came out in May.
A good addition to any collection. |

This release is dual-layer.

I wonder if it's a new video transfer for this issue.
The 'old' release I have was obviously done from a theatrical print. You can see the reel change circles... mind you it is a nice copy of the film. The 'new' release says "High Definition Transfer", but as I understand it, all transfers are 1080p/24 which is HD, so I wonder if it is a new transfer or the previous one. Obviously they have redone the sound which brings up the 'purist' not-original-mix issue, kinda like changing the OAR, but it is a damn fine flick.

Thus, some of the better films have been "remastered" using the latest transfer equipment and re-released as today's "special editions." |

Harr matey,
Good info. I always thought the first generation releases leaved a bit to be desired.

Looks like there's a new batch in the bin...
Last night I found Sphere, Red Planet, and 2010. Two of them were $6.48.

There's a treasure trove to be found in them thar bins laddybuck.
So far I've found Flight Of The Phoenix (1965), The Day After, Stepmother Is An Alien, Coneheads, Demolition Man, Twister, Soldier, Hot Shots, etc. It's a great way to build up a DVD collection. |

I've been wanting to add Red Planet to my sci fi collection, never thought of going to Wallmart for it :-)
Sphere is a good movie! |

Kiss the Girls had a $6.88 sticker on it but rang up at $2.88 so I am not sure if any other movies scan at $2.88. I may just have to take an armload of DVDs to the Price Checker...
