Help with Printer on FibreOP Setup - Canadian TV, Computing and Home Theatre Forums

Just wondering if anyone can help with getting my network printer to work.

Here's the issue, it's Lexmark printer that has both an ethernet port as well as wireless connection to the network. I had it working fine before the install of FibreOP in Oct.

Once the Tech finished the install I plugged in the printer thinking there should be no issues, it's wired right.

It didn't recognize that it was on a network. So then I reinstalled the printer driver with the network setup wizard and it appeared to work. The printer got an IP address, sent a job to the printer and nothing came out. The PC said it had printed without error but no paper came out.

So I pinged the IP address of the printer, that worked. Put the IP address of the printer into a browser window and it displayed the status interface for the printer, which it should. So obviously the printer in communicating with the network right?

I then tried to set it up wirelessly and again the setup went ok and the printer connected to the network and got assigned an IP address that I could ping and browse, printed from pc, which didn't give an error, but no actual printed material comes out.

I tried to determine which port the printer uses to see it if is blocked by the router for some reason but can't determine if for sure. I think it's port 80.

Right now I have functionality as it's hooked up by USB to one PC and shared from there on HOMEGROUP. But it's frustrating that I know this is not the best way it should be set up, the network says it's there, it was working before, and I can't solve the problem.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Try removing the printer from devices and printers. (Don't uninstall the driver package - right click, remove device)

Then add it again through add printer wizard as a network printer.

You could also try setting your printer to use a static IP, then just point windows to that IP when adding a printer.

Just bumping this up as I still have not been able to solve this. I tried Beercoaster's suggestions as well as resetting the router numerous times (which a friend suggested.) The other problem I have which leads me to believe it's "port" problem involves a web server. I use a programme called Calibre to manage my ebooks. It has a function to act as a web server so I can access my books via a web page both while on my LAN and remotely using my BA IP address. When I was with Eastlink, this worked perfectly. Now it no longer does. I've tried setting up port forwarding (port 8080) for this software but can't get it to work. Any suggestions?

Yup same issue, I am not happy AT ALL! if you are using the actiontec you will not be able to see any device that is connected to your local network, so I have found, I am going to try hooking up my old Router and using it as a DHCP and configuring the stupid actiontec as a gateway ONLY.

So far I am not happy with the service I am getting from Aliant and their lack on knowledge

Your printer may be using UPnP to make it discoverable on your network and UPnP is disabled on the router by default. Go into the router config, Advanced Setup, then click the UPnP link on the bottom left side of the page, then enable it. You may be able to see the printer after doing this.

You don't want to do that.

If the Actiontec isn't your DHCP server the STBs won't pick up the correct IP.
Read this thread. I had that problem a while ago.

I have a WD MyBook Live drive set up and have no problem accessing it over the Internet. I can also access my home computers with TeamViewer.

I had no problem connecting to other devices such as NAS devices, my boxee box or printers over my network when using the actiontec, are you sure your printer is set to receive an ip address via dhcp and not statically set(maybe to your previous networks ip scheme)? also on your computer is your printer driver set to the correct ip address?( I would uninstall the drive and reinstall to ensure it is correct) you could also set the ip address of the printer statically to something like 192.168.2.150(high enough that it's unlikely to conflict with any device that the dhcp server gives out). I know a few people who have wireless and wired printers connected using the actiontec router with no issues.
